Got home at 21:00 from the Grand Union Canal.

Had drunk 8 pints of liquids but still felt totally dessicated.

Lock winding is hard work in temperatures around 100F!!

Got back home to 30C outside (just before the cool down started), and 38C inside.  Had a cold shower before bed and lay on top of sheets all night cuddling a hot water bottle full of coolish water. Not cold by the way as the temp in the loft was 50C - where the showers and bath cold water tank is situated. Never thought about that before.....

I did not sleep well at all, but with all windows open now,  I can  feel the cool air drifting through the house.

Bliss....

Anyway an interesting day with my granddaughters 10th birthday meal thrown in, it will be a day to remember.

MIA

  • A fresh feeling 20.3C here at the moment, maxed out yesterday at 37.9C so didn't quite beat the old uk record but was certainly hot enough!!

Highest minimum temperature recorded last night - 24.5C. Quite surprised considering forecasts were suggesting temperatures drop down to 19C.

Minimum here 19.2 °C last night, which is exceptionally warm for my location and over 2 degrees warmer than the min on Monday night! Right now it's only 19.6 °C and overcast with it, so in midnight-midnight terms (which is how I record) it's possible last night's low may actually be removed as my daily min even before the sun goes down...

Certainly an enormous change from the last two days, either way! Would personally prefer somewhere in between, say 25 °C with sunshine and light winds (like Saturday was here) though lack of rain is starting to be a serious concern. Like a lot of places we had a substantial grassland fire only a few miles from here yesterday, on Hartlebury Common just outside Stourport.

Horrible out there at the mo, cool 20.5c windy, but 84% humidity like swimming in air.

No sun to kick anything off

Fefreshing change with light rain here for the past 2 hours, hopefully it will green the desert looking fields up a little.

No rain here, we're just back to the pattern of the rest of the summer, overcast, dull, dry and just dreary.

Is there another country in the whole world that is do persistently cloudy? Dull, grey, awful visibility. After a few brief days of brightness and even sunshine, it's really depressing. It could be November looking out of the window.

Rain seems to have stopped, looks like the back edge has passed. 14c and moderate rain was certainly a shock to the system this morning!

Anyone noticed  that the lightning strikes are increasing and getting closer here, but may well be too far south to hear or see anything.

Well it would appear the storm cell has split and has become weaker, hence no lightning activity for the past 30 mins.

Even my medium wave radio is just picking up static now, it was very active half hour ago.

18c here from 20 ish Maybe the overhang of cloud has dipped the temp too much?

The moderate rain will be welcome.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
