It felt colder in the house yesterday evening than anytime since last spring but we dug out blankets and resisted turning the heating on for the first time.

we managed without heating until early November last year, obviously helped by a pretty warm autumn and unless there’s some serious cold of the snow variety about and with two weeks in mid November being spent in a much warmer place, I hope we can stop any excessive lining of the energy company’s pockets at least until December🤞🤞🤞

Quite mild this am at 9°, 5.45.  Normally get a couple of degrees dip just before sunrise.  Under pale blue echoes according to the radar but it's still dry out, also the outside window ledge is bone dry, can't feel any dew.  Not going to stay dry for long though.

Not quite as chilly to start this morning with the temperature having risen through the night probably due to cloud cover, currently 8.8C. Not a bad start to the day with broken cloud at the moment, but looks as though some outbreaks of rain are possible today.

10c cloudy… yesterday started damp but had sunny afternoon and even felt warm out of the breeze even though the temp didn’t get above 14c…

Had lovely Sunday in Buxton… stayed at Buxton Crescent Hotel & Spa for 6th wedding anniversary, caught the bus there and back… had evening swimming in thermal pool on roof top and delicious tea….

Back from our cruise to Amsterdam, and we were so lucky with the weather, with blue skies throughout our stay although tempered with a cold wind and the Channel / North Sea flat calm.  A full  programme of visits and our walking tour of the city centre on Saturday night was certainly an eye-opener for us old fogeys! A cold start back at Southampton yesterday morning but developed into another nice day and the M3, A34, M40 and M6 were clear throughout, thus bringing a successful conclusion to an enjoyable weekend.  Interesting how quickly the leaves are changing colour now and this was a feature of our journey home, with glorious contrasts of colour in the sun and under the clear blue skies. Definitely autumnal!

Back to reality, a cloudy start today with spits and spots of rain in the air but nothing more yet.

A couple of ensembles still going for a potent cold blast. Not likely to happen but still the chance is there. This is encouraging going forward though later in the year because most ensemble members in winter can often be devoid of cold. The fact we're seeing this now is intriguing.

Miserable day certainly not the day for building playing card towers in the garden so I put a new power breaker in garage

We had a brief dense fog period about 45 minutes ago but is now clear as a bell.

Indeed front loaded winter seems to be the form horse at the moment.

No fog here this morning, struggle to get even that these days.  Although can't grumble with my day off work and sunny skies from the word go.  Steam rising off the garden fences as the sun got to work.  Managed to get a decent cycle ride in.

Cut-off low to the south west maybe delivering a late burst of autumn warmth from the south late next week?....screaming northerly after that.  If only.

I had to make a trip to the train station, and whilst sunny, it was rather cool, requiring my bobble hat. However on the return journey it had warmed up, and is now a glorious autumn day.

A coolish start to the day here with mist first thing, Lingered until late morning, but then the sun broke through this afternoon and it felt warm out in the sun with light winds just now.
