massive gap in central midlands

Yeah, it's been an irritation to many of us Midlanders for years. Sadly the trend in recent years has been to close stations rather than open new ones (in this hot weather Gravesend comes to mind) so I don't expect the situation to get better, sadly.

Looks like the Met Office have the day's highest zone spot on. We've now got a raft of 39's up the north-east from Cambridge to close to Newcastle and across to Nottingham.

At least one of those 39's is likely to push above 40C I think, perhaps higher.

edit. e.g. maybe Doncaster for the highest?

Agreed. I lived in Oklahoma for a year and we had this page for all the official sites:

It's fantastic with data every 5 mins. There's no excuse why a world-leading institution like the Met Office can't put something like this together.

I completely agree, however the issue I rather suspect, is that they consider the data to be 'theirs', rather like the jealously guarded attitude to sharing NWP output.

As a pom in Sydney, you’d be surprised how cool high twenties can feel after temps of 40+

I can agree wholeheartedly: coming into my house (26C) from outside (37.5C) I enjoy a similiar sensation as when you walk into aircon or open a fridge. Never would I have thought 26C could feel so cool and welcoming!

Probably the case. Ignoring the fact that it's us taxpayers who fund it. But hey ho!

Yep, 39c in Nottingham, could possibly squeeze 40c in the next hour.

Before yesterday record was 36.1c, so broken on both days and smashed it today!

Newcastle increased 3C between 13.20 and 14.20 to 37.2C....very steep upward rise....let's see where it ends....

That's what annoys me about it the most I think - it should be freely available data. It's not like it's commercially sensitive or personal and has to be kept secret.

By the way, what's NWP output?

Clouded over now; still 32c, feels muggy. A few spots of rain but hardly noticeable, as guess most are evaporating before reaching below 30 feet.

Ended up being quite underwhelming for Scotland in the end, nowhere near a record breaker.

What are the official figures thus far? Looks like records broken in the Scottish Borders.
