Well, we've certainly had drought-relieving rains in recent weeks. We've exceeded 100mm for November already which is seriously impressive for these parts. Ponds and lakes are still very low here though which shows just how depleted the water table has been this year.

Back in July, I predicted a wet autumn. Looks like for once, my weather prediction came true.

I am still unable to correctly predict winning lottery numbers though. 😆

Severn trent region average reservoir levels recovering nicely in the last 2 months, 20% increase.

The dry summer feeling like a very distant memory.

1st January - 4th September 2022: 233.2mm

5th September - 28th December 2022: 256.6mm

Almost 500mm for the year now, so it wont even be as dry as 2011 and 2013. Quite a recovery. Still only 74% for the year, but not quite as serious as it was looking!

Only 273.4mm here to the end of August but I haven't had as much as you since then either but still a sizable jump to 718.0mm

I'm not convinced we are in a drought any more. November was very wet in southern regions especially and the second half of December decided to make up for the cold and dry first half with interest. Soil is saturated across the UK which is normal at this time of year. Curiously, SE England seems to have copped the above average rainfall in November more than almost every other region in the UK even though the lows were generally stalled or slow moving just west of the UK, a setup where I would expect western parts of the UK to be wetter than the east.

Here in the normally very wet Pennines we had 450mm to the end of August but still only at 707mm to the end of November,we have had that total in a 5 month period before now.

I feel as if it's coming to the point now where it's time to resurrect this thread, though perhaps it should be renamed.

It must be around a month now since my location last had some meaningful rainfall, which looks to be continuing for the foreseeable. As what was often the case during 2022, any rain that has been forecast either gets watered down or cancelled altogether.

Blocked weather patterns, whether it is cyclonic or anticyclonic seems to be the thing with our weather now. I personally miss the varied weather we used to have.

Renamed!

We have had 0.4mm in February, and haven't had more than 2mm in a day since 15th January. The cumulative rainfall for the entire 18z GFS makes grim reading:

Well if spring follows the same pattern a hosepipe ban with be back probably early summer possibly before.

If the Tonga eruption does warm planet due to amount water injected into the atmosphere this summer could be very hot with plenty of fires around.

I've had more moisture from melting hoar frost than rain in the last month.

I kinda think that might happen as well at some point, la nina finally decaying completely is bound to shake what has been a generally very slow moving global pattern up and I think we'd be lucky to land on another dry setup again via different mechanisms.

Should we get a -ve NAO average pattern this spring that at least raises the chances of a wetter spring for southern areas that still have an average 18 month deficit of rainfall.

That is what I think also. The rain always arrives with a vengeance after several weeks of the weather doing nothing.

It's either one or the other these days.

I just about had enough rain to wet the ground the other day but apart from that I’ve seen nothing really since mid-January.

EWP is roughly about 20mm since mid January to now and looking at the charts it looks very dry going into the first week of March

Could contain: Plot, Chart, Outdoors, Nature, Sea, Water, Map, Land, Vegetation, Plant

30 years ago, February and March were very dry for the EWP, 40.4mm was recorded over those two months.

I get a horrible feeling that this is going to breakdown into a summer washout
