Just incredible watching this...cam7 Venice fishing pier still.under attack from these vicious winds...as the storm is reported to only be moving ne at 8mph now it means these areas are getting battered for longer...also the sustained nature of the wind ...just a continuous blast going on for hour after hour...those palm.trees must have reinforced trunks...

Punta Gorda...just taking a battering on cam 8 ...that palm tree is a hero...you cant see anything...mexovortex...... back part of wall now...that cam is pretty amazing that its still going...

Looks like a potential catastrophe- but having said that I saw some video just now from the village in Captiva and, though flooded with trees down, it looked at least like buildings were standing. I was fearful everything would just be gone.

I mean, it was bad in Punta Gorda before and they recorded a 124mph (I think) gust, but now it looks a hundred times worse. Mesovortices in the rear eyewall apparently.

Never seen a storm like this.

I’ve no idea what mesovortices are… presumably something tornado like?

It's a palm tree. They can survive up to 165-170mph gusts I think. I'm afraid the catastrophe at Punta Gorda will be devastating.

Yes, kinda like a tornado inside the eyewall. Rotating wind gusts.

Update: it’s pretty vile out there now. Still a few hours until the peak, trying to upload a video but with no joy sorry.  The room is shaking at times and it’s not looking like a pleasant nights sleep. Also, frequent lightning and a tornado warning in force.

What an insane 10 hours or so.

We’re in a Villa in Davenport which is near Kissimmee.

Started getting extremely wet and windy from 7.30pm last night, and is still going, at 8am this morning.

Incredibly glad that I’ve experienced a hurricane (cat 2), but wouldn’t wish it on anyone. No let up in storm force winds in the duration, and the rain, never seen the amount fall in 24 hours.

Also sounded at times like a tornado was outside, just an absolute brutal experience.

Luckily the electric and villa is in one piece.

Flight home tomorrow is cancelled, but being rescheduled for Saturday or Sunday.

Glad that’s over.

Also the amount of Emergency messages you get out here on your phone, even through our TV are insane.

Scares the bejesus out of you first time you get one, but a great system.
