Ian appears to be slowing down or moving very slowly looking at the satellite on windy.com..

NBC2 providing good coverage on You Tube during their early hours. Forecaster just pointed out that the hurricane-wind field of Charlie would fit into the eye-wall of Hurricane Ian. Many who fled to the East Coast will likely still experience Tropical Storm force winds.

That predicted rain field is going to make a mess of its own thru Tampa and northwards.

Look at the outflow/front off Ian, never seen something as long as that before.

Stuck in a hotel in Orlando for the next two days. Still eerily calm at the moment with only moderate rain. Local forecasts are saying tropical storm to cat 1 winds here and anywhere between 10-20 inches of rain in the next 48 hours.

Latest recon seems to indicate that with an extrapolated central pressure of 939 mb Ian is becoming cat4. NHC update at 2am EDT forecasts strengthening until landfall but I'm not sure there is time for a Cat 5 unless it follows the same pattern as Michael which suddenly transitioned to Cat5 just before landfall

Impressive that it strengthened so much in just 4 hours!

I think though that cat 5 is unlikely unless he stalls over water for a time before making landfall.

It's that fine line between stalling to gain strength and stalling to allow upwelling of colder water. It is forecast to slow. Whether or not as it interacts with land it will tighten its circulation I'm not sure

I’ve found one that seems ok. Not looking good even for inland Florida. Gusting to hurricane force even in the central areas for a time

Hurricanetrack is my favourite, though Mark was having a few hour's kip at a motel. I wonder whether "Kip" and "Motel" have appeared in the same sentence since The Small Faces toured the US.

Probably my favourite chaser, doesn't overdo the personal noise.

Seems even close to the coastline where the depth is around 50m cold water upwelling occurs
