Just incredible watching that on Christmas day here in a mild 10 deg where everyone is desperate to see a Flake of snow.

Buffalo a?....what a place for severe winter weather at the end of a great lake. Saw a sign in the video saying " keep Buffalo a secret"...no chance now...the weather has made sure of that...

Fair play to Reed...goes where others dont and helps those stranded where he can...although cant understand why he is not wearing eye protectors ?

Also amazing to think that by end of next week it will be mild again ...probably with flooding probems...

Afternoon all 🙂

An extraordinary event as said and the warm up next week will also be considerable - Cincinnati at -10F now will be +60F by the end of the week.

Looking at the charts over North America, I do see some parallels with the events of 17-18 December 2010 over here. Between a very large and strong HP over Greenland, a blast of very cold Arctic air headed south and south west across north west Europe and especially the British Isles. A cold LP developed in the flow over Scandinavia and migrated to be over the British Isles during the 18th and that brought heavy snow to many areas and temperatures below freezing for many.

Presumably, the sea passage mitigated the strength of the air flow in a way it doesn't over North America as the frigid ait travels south across the Canadian Prairies and into the Midwest and just as our coldest and deepest N'lies can reach right down to Iberia so this blast has reached the Gulf of Mexico.

The rapidly deepening LP looked to head north or even north-north west which is a track we've observed with hurricanes and only now has it begun to fill and move back NE. The HP has also declined and cut off the air flow from the Arctic for now.

The city's death toll from severe blizzard conditions soars to 25, about half the nationwide total.

 My thoughts for those affected

Those who lost their lives around Buffalo were found in cars, homes and snowbanks. Some died while shovelling snow, while others perished when emergency crews could not respond in time to medical crises.

Died whilst shovelling snow?🤦‍♂️

Quite common in the US as its law to clear the sidewalk outside your property.

This leads to many property owners clearing snow who probably medically shouldn't be such as heart disease sufferers etc.

Clearly something you haven't done a lot off.  Wet Snow is awful dry snow is fairly easy to shift. I wouldn't fancy having to dig out snow levels like 2010 again. It does help if other people come out as well which in our area is somewhat lacking.

You've taken my post the wrong way.. I didn't mean they couldn't hack it and died - I meant was it really necessary?

I work as a caretaker in a school btw, so I've shovelled plenty of snow 👍

These houses look like a model/toy town, so surreal! Fortunately no fatalities from this scenario.
Watched ‘A Day After Tomorrow’ film last night (yes, again) - & we thought it was fictional!

Can’t see a credit for who took the drone footage in the article & it doesn’t appear on Nates Dronography page so not sure…..
