I see the BBC are doing "theres no heatwave around"in their week ahead forecast this evening..

No one says there is. so why bring that into the conversation?  to be fair they have been doing it for years.

Because the daily express are doing their usual thing. Google daily express and heatwave and you will see what I mean.

I see, and yes the Express are notorious for that . been more heatwaves in the UK than on the SUN.. according to them

Looks rubbish for tomorrow’s coronation 👑 It’s was terrible on the Jubilee Sunday last year and was one of the few periods of bad weather in spring/summer in 2022. The jubilee in 2012 was also a washout. And I’ve heard but might be wrong but the 1953 coronation and 1977 jubilee were washouts too!?

The 1953 coronation was famously wet, at least in London. Not sure about everywhere else, but surely everyone was indoors watching it on their newfangled televisions!

It was exceptionally cold too, in fact in the south of England it was one of the coldest June days on record, the max temp in London that day was just 11.8C.

A weird old day but can't complain about this evening now...17c and virtually a clear sky, perfect mildness for sitting al fresco, going for a walk etc 😁

19.5c, the warmest day of the year so far at Heathrow.

Actually a chance of seeing 20c over the next week, before it gets even cooler.

And the 2002 one wasn't great either (on the holiday Monday and tuesday) tho the Saturday and Sunday were decent enough

Im guessing it would be almost impossible to see maximas that low these days in June.

Not at all. During the July 2007 floods for instance the one day during the torrential rain we had we barely got to 11c/52f.

Indeed, I've just scrolled through Heathrow max temps for June for the last 16 years, and none have been as cold as 11 or even 12c

The QE2's coronation..

June 2nd 1953: 12.8°C max temp at Heathrow

Yes not central London but looking back to June 2012 according to my records in Crystal Palace the maximum was 12.3 on 4 June and 12.9 on 5 June. With a northerly / easterly airstream and no sun it can still be very cool.

Any change to our miserable godforsaken climate could only be an improvement. 🤣

2020 and 2019 were proof enough, that our summers haven’t become any better in 40 years. They were even crappier than 1983, 84, 90, 94, 95, 96 and even 2005.

Warm cloudy days with next to no sunshine for days on end, is a crap summer.

Yeah, but they will keep telling us, ‘it’s much warmer now’ and ‘it’s hard to achieve a below average month nowadays’ which is absolute nonsense.

I don't know what website comes on automatic when I access the internet, but every day there is some headline about an impending freeze or super heatwave, a load of rubbish. Indeed every headline is just hyperbole garbage. Yet the worrying thing is some people believe these headlines, I despair!.. glad I've not had the brain transplant!

2020 was cloudier than normal, yes. Summer 2019 was average or even slightly above average in sunshine though.

The coldest ever summer day in London was the 3rd June 1953 at 10.7c!

In more recent times, 28 May 2007 had a max of 7.4c. I'm not sure if that is an error but it seems incredibly cold for the date, and surely as cold as it will ever get in the 2nd half of May.
