At least three more shots at this year's highest.

Thanks. I suspect somewhere may nudge up to 33 degrees over the next 3 days. A very late max temp if happens, similiar to 2006 or was it 2016?

September 2016 reached 34.4°C on the 13th. That was the hottest day of 2016 and the hottest September temperature since 1911.

Which one are you referring too as there are several to topple?

What would the temps be if it were mid-July. Historically I would've said at least 38C?

I've seen some discussion of a potential to beat last year's 40°c if these same conditions had happened in July or August. I suspect it would have a much longer duration too.

Potentially. I reckon a large chunk of the reason we reached 40C last year so quickly (typically without the need for prolonged spell) in that short heat snap was because much of western Europe was the driest it had been in over 300 years before it arrived. The air wasn't picking up the moisture it would normally do which limits extreme temperatures.

This year has been different.

All eyes on whether 9 September sees the hottest max of the year. A good chance 33 degrees will be breached.

I'm not so sure about tomorrow beating today, the core heat will be attacked by instability and cloud and showers might invade in time to stop that happening.

Interesting how we've endured either warm or cold periods 3 months apart last 9 months, the Dec spell started 8th Dec, the mini snowy cold spell in March started 8th, the June hot spell started 9th, and this heatwave peaking on the 9th, it started earlier... the 8-10th periods all coinciding with heat or cold. Meaning the start of each season has seen something more extreme than usual.

Is there a site that tracks the highest UK readings in real time? Netweather's tracker is okay but updates only hourly.

I couldn’t find one. The met office twitter is good if records are being broken like today with Heathrow.

So looks like 33.2°C at Kew Gardens was the hottest day of the year so far.

Haven't seen anything higher than this quoted by the MO.

Found a 33.5C in Brogdale, next to Faversham in Kent, seems to be highest this year from Sunday @damianslaw@Relativistic
