Storms and Convective discussion - July 2023

A day of tilted showers with suspicious lowerings (caught a small funnel). The NMM looks poor in the near horizon with limited instability and no sign of any southerly plumes.

A lot of Ac around this morning. Always nice to see evening if storms not seemingly in offing.

One of the only times I have ran like hell to see a weather thing but I did that this morning.

It died just after I got to the seafront but yeah first waterspout bagged. It was the second one within an hour

yep those huge clouds are over me and are giving me a torrential downpour but there has been no thunder yet

Incredible scenes here considering I was told that there's no chance of thunder when I asked if I needed to do a discussion for today on our mini forecast group chat, yesterday. I tend not to look at the models unless I'm told there's a risk then I'll work out where it is, which can occasionally be detrimental. Looks quite thundery for what just brought torrential rain.

Not yet anyway, very heavy for a non thundery shower though. Still have no existent light rain here, watching this moving slowly across not my north.

looks like it's raining itself out now so it's likely nothing thundery will come out of it

Forgot to post these earlier but more pictures of that lowering

Just saw a funnel cloud in Swanley - spent all my time getting everyone here to come and see it I forgot to photo it. This is it roping out

There could easily be more funnels developing looking at the skies over NW Kent - while not translating into storms, there’s definitely a lot of upward motion in this shallow convection

edit - well, looking at the radar it looks like convection is finally winning out.
