Depend which part, and which way you want to view. The top of Garrowby Hill gives good views across the Vale of York, another spot to consider would be Octon Cross Roads roundabout, where the B1249 and the B1253 cross. Although the views there are only fair you do have elevation, but its the option to head in any of the 4 compass points with good views within 6 to 8 miles, on good straight roads, you can get views of Holderness, Bridlington Bay, Scarborough, Malton, and the Humber all within about 15 mins drive.

I know it's North Yorkshire but Danby Beacon is ace.

Sun is now coming out which should allow the heating to begin and give us the thumbs up.

No lightning visible. Radar showing very little too but that’s not to say it’s going off above that cloud layer and we just don’t see it

Yeah, Arnside Pier is about to get battered by the looks of it. Never mind, just realised where it is.

Looks like the winds may move round to more of a south westerly rather than current south to south easterly for those of us in south east and EA later through the day. This may be of interest if northern france keeps spawning.... Something to keep an eye on

I should have known better than to make a statement like the one above, sorry to everyone in the south, commentators curse really killed off those storms 🤣

I did manage to capture 3 bolts, totally worth the time and money spent on fuel.... NOT

For whatever reason, this part of the world has turned into joke as far a storms are concerned, it's really is getting ridiculous, add to that when you find a nice spot to watch any storms that miraculously make an appearance, you have to put up with people playing ridiculously loud music right next to you from their campervan, as well as their 100000000000000 lumin spotlights flooding the countryside making photography virtually impossible 😖

Sorry for the rant, but that's what this years "storm season" has done to us in central southern areas 😑

Having said all that, good luck to anyone wishing for a storm today, can't wait to see how it unfolds.

As there won't be any storms down here, I'm going research good places to stay in France for next year's storm season 😄

Possibly due to a lack of forcing, areas further north may be receiving assistance from divergent winds....

It literally starts to die the second it leaves the French coast - anything that does make it this far is just a drizzly mess which then reinvigorates as soon as it leaves the area.

Elevated/surface based - it doesn’t matter. The central south has become less thundery than the arctic circle.

The only thing we see here now are ‘thundery showers’ from the SW which are about as exciting as BBC 2

Look on sat and you’ll see where the biggest showers / storms are is generally where airmasses are meeting and the direction change is forcing the warm air coming from the south upwards. We’ve got no convergence in the south, so it generally fizzles out, meaning the air remains primed for the point at which it converges further north.

Delighted to see initiation around the Swindon area, looking good for me in Melton Mowbray later this afternoon
