Managed to do a little garden tidy-up, dead-leaves, moss, etc.. day's been decent so far but now clouding over, hopefully the rain should fizzle out by the time it approaches our parts...maybe wet the ground stuff.  Fingers crossed the rain-shield is instigated tomorrow to keep most of the rain threatening from the South East at bay.

Hopeful signs on the horizon that we might be rid of the cold pool of air we've had for awhile and things warm up to average or a little above.  Won't be long before we're seeking the shade instead of cursing it.

Spots of rain under an increasingly moody sky

Blue echoes all around here but Macc bone dry at the moment.  Yes, some excitement for a bit of heat next week, one of my sister's gardens is still half under water and unworkable.  Parts of the region may see 20°C on Wednesday if this chart verifies.

Last decent warmth here was the 11th April when a pleasant 17.5°C was reached, wet by tea time though.

Faintest of spits and spots in the air, radar showing light blue only, not expecting anything much. Its still early in the year, in a months time under similiar synoptics I'd be expecting far more convective activity aided by warmer temps. Alas a fine albeit cloudy day. Great visibility and ideal walking weather, getting out and doing exercise without breaking a sweat instantly, temps a cool 10.5 degrees.

Tomorrow remains uncertain, where will the frontal rain track..

I'm going to the ELR tomorrow as it's the only day I can so hopefully it's not going to be too bad or I'll have to hide in a pub lol.

This first week of May often seems to have a warm spell or plume. I can remember countless years when it has happened. I always think of it as the first heat/thunder chance of the year.

Chris.R  now wrong with hiding in a pub in any weather but tomorrows rain band is looking to be very close to east Lancs so there’s a good chance you’ll need the shelter.

A Face like Thunder good luck in the playoffs.

Dark Horse Sorry to hear your news, thoughts are with you, certainly been a tough time for you. Doesn't make it any easier, but at least your mum is no longer suffering.

Chris.R Last day of the Castle? The Trackside should be sufficient refuge.

Dark Horse sorry to hear your news… condolences to you at this sad time. As you say at least she is no longer suffering…

I’ve always found solace in memories of good times in times of grief and afterwards… having lost my dad when I was 10 and now all my grandparents having passed…

Been waiting for some warmer weather to walk the high line at Castlefield… maybe next week will suffice weatherwise 🤞🤞☀️☀️☀️☀️

Iceaxecrampon  Yep. That's what I'm thinking, or the brown cow at Burrs.

 Iceaxecrampon the radar isn’t lying.

not heavy rain here but it’s wet and not looking like sodding off back over the Pennines any time soon.

If the forecast is to be believed then hopefully something a bit drier this afternoon so the day might not be totally ruined and it will give me time to complete a bit of decorating that I couldn’t be bothered to finish last night.

Overcast and dry here, the rain stalling just a few miles to my East, looks really wet and miserable over the Peaks/Pennines.

Quite unusual to see a system track south to north to our east, leaving much of west half of region dry at least. Looking to my west there are blue skies and its very clear. After the endless rain of recent months, we have had by and large 8 dry days on the trot, and today could be the 9th.

Keep up the good work Pennines and Peaks.   Unusual for us on this western side to miss the deluges.  Here only 1.5mm over last 8 days,.   Like winter out there though.   Persishing cold NNW wind this morning.  Spring very hesitant.

Yesterday a neighbouring farmer, much dependent on bought in cheap grain for winter feed for stock, told me of his worries about supply next winter.   In the UK arable areas normal amounts of winter wheat couldn't be sown due to constantly sodden land -- and in many places where it was sown the germination has been poor and seedlings have died.  So as conditions have improved there has been a switch to spring sown cereals.  However due to high demand, seed for spring sowing is now almost impossible to get.   Likely to be an expensive and/or hungry winter for us all.
