WillinGlossop Yes, its an impressive covering for so late but not a great fan of snowfall at this time of year. Just want some warm sunshine now but so much more appealing is a continental climate with its more extreme variety of weather. Hope you lot get some decent warmth and sunshine soon ?

Iceaxecrampon I know Keldas well, the bluebells are a treat. I remember visiting them in mid May 2020, north slopes and they were in bloom, whereas they were barely out same time 2021.

Another fine day here, turning into a decent dry spell in the Lake District and we look best placed to see least rain in England in days ahead..As said this is the lakeland dry season, all quite normal to see eastern and south parts plagued by cloud this time of year whilst we bask in sunshine.

Chilly frosty nights at present.

carinthian now that is some snow, not the piddling amounts we have to put up with.

It’s bad enough when wagon wheels and mars bars are affected by shrinkflation but these days it’s even snowfall.

Heard the rain on the dormer roof when I got up this morning and although it looks to have passed through now, it’s left everything damp so nowhere near as good a start to yesterday and Tuesday.

doesn’t look like a bad day coming up though, maybe a few showers but compared to the conditions we’ve endured for much of this spring, passable.

just need the warmer air to push up ahead of Saturdays system and for that to remain to our south, then we may manage to get a half decent few days.

2.9c raining ☔️ so much for dry until Sunday 🤣😂 oh well…  how are we still in this rut?
picked up a bug in Londonford 🤧 mixed with hay Fever 🤒 lovely jubbly 🙈🙈

At least managed a good walk yesterday, lots of gardening and odd jobs sorted.. including stopping crows nesting in loft through broken vent cover… by crawling in loft space and blocking vent to 5cm 👌👍

What I’m finding more astonishing than how poor and cold our weather is, is that there’s not a single day on the 00Z where temperatures anywhere in the UK at any given time are above 18C… and that goes out till the 10th of May, 3 weeks from the start of meteorological summer.

I mean, it could be worse, it could be battering down all day. Light rain on the dog walk this morning, but hat and gloves on. They're usually collecting dust already at this time of year.

tricol I don’t think it could be much worse for this time of year. It’s rained almost every day, it’s below average temperature wise and it’s frosty of a night time. Only thing that would make it worse is high winds.

Except a brief sunny interval at midday it's been cloudy with rain on and off. I saw that little feature early this morning predicted but God knows where all this came from.

Yes, I thought todays showers were due tomorrow.  Showered on and off all day, latter half of afternoon drier.  Noticeably cooler without the bursts of sunshine, managed to scrape 9°C.  In the last throws of April now, it has so far only produced 5 dry days here.

Its been fine and dry here so far today, we seem to have a shower shield around us. No evidence of any rain in early hours either. Just checked the radar and surprised at the amount of shower activity given how fine it is here. Sometimes you strike lucky, indeed we've enjoyed a run of dry days since Saturday.

It is chilly air, lots of sun but failed to reach 11 degrees.

As with other parts of the region, a poor showery day and certainly worse than anything forecast.

Wall to wall cloud until lunchtime then a few minutes sunshine here and there during the afternoon and as seems to have been the case throughout April, a cool feel to things.

A couple of months earlier and it would have been a winter spell to tell the grandkids about but as usual, no such luck from this part of the planet and week after week, month after month of mediocrity is as good as it gets with anything remotely warm and dry being continually just beyond the reliable.

even this weekends warming (sorry approaching average) trend is looking like early next week now.

A mixed bag today after a decent couple of days. A few showers, some heavy. Temperature only reached 9.9C, well below average for the time of year.

Big area of showers over home moving south towards Warrington. I'm out in Liverpool atm and see the dark clouds missing me to the east.

Well the forecast I saw was for light rain all day, so a few showers isn't too bad compared to that. Looking warmer from Monday onwards 🤞

Looks like another morning to scrape the ice off the windscreen; certainly not unheard of in April but I feel like we’ve had more early morning frosts this month than Jan - March combined.

Good to see the forecasters are still pushing the gradual warming next week and the Met extended outlook is talking about warm or even very warm conditions as we going further into next month so maybe we are finally seeing the end of this wretched period of weather and can look forward to venturing out without the need for a jacket.

We’re not there yet though and the weekend is looking wet and cold for some although for a change it’s borderline for our our region and we may just about scrape a predominately dry couple of days with the wettest conditions to our south and east.

Beautiful clear start to the day, was 1°C at 6am but felt colder, couldn't see any frost.  Currently still clear, but some cloud appearing in the distant NE.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
