Looks like the weekend/next week storms are tracking North at the moment. Still very windy though, and sustained for longer

Did anyone around the Anglesey/Bangor area benefit from that streamer & shower activity last night? Was pretty constant from what I saw on the radar for N. Wales!

Oh yes, I did!!!😃Although the covering is barely more then a cm or two it seems to have created some very treacherous roads in the area. As it happens, this morning I was tasked with taking a friend from here (south of Caernarfon) to catch a train at Bangor but getting there proved a bit tricky. No problems on main roads here out in the sticks (amazingly!) but main road over Felinheli bypass was log jammed and so was the route through Y Felinheli itself where apparently a four car crashed had happened, involving even a police car. Last resort was a detour through Bethel which, with some considerable care, got us there, albeit 20 minutes later and so my friend had to take a later train to London which now involves two changes. At least we got there in one peace. Can't believe how many roads didn't appear to have been treated recently. Another point here to make is that although this mornings snow was less than Tuesday morning's I notice that it's in no hurry to melt any time soon despite temps currently at 2 C whereas on Tuesday it melted fairly quickly during the day. I guess the lower night time temps on minus 3 to 4 C preceding the event produced much a drier snow. Will be very icy in the morning, so i'm just glad I don't have to commute any more!

Up in the preseli hills it’s about 8cm, looking absolutely beautiful but the roads are horrendous ❄️😬

Great to see low level and even coastal snow in Pembrokeshire, a fairly rare sight.

In the north a heavy shower approaching Llandudno right now, hopefully snow? Similar size shower has recently moved through Bangor area too.

Shower signal has seemed to decrease slightly for tonight on recent model runs. But UKV still showing some showers moving fairly far inland in North Wales between now and midnight. Similarly with Cardigan Bay, and moving inland to Carmarthenshire with maybe some towards Swansea area.

-5.5c here in Cardiff last night, fairly impressive minimum.

Hi everyone new member here please be friendly?! Looks like the cold spell is coming to an end this weekend it’s been rather disappointing for the majority of us in wales this week! Less than 6 weeks to go until spring hopefully we can get some proper snowy weather in before winter fades away

Croeso mawr Cold weather and beer ❄️😀

Although we haven't seen much in the way of widespread deep snow (4 dustings here this last fortnight which isn't bad) this has been a fantastic prolonged period of below average temperatures.

Ponds and ditches have been frozen solid since 6th of January and will likely remain frozen tomorrow and potentially into Saturday at the latest making it 14 days. We've had an air frost every night for 14 days. 4 Ice days and a minimum temperature of - 8.9.

I would have loved a good dumping of the white stuff but apart from that it's been a lovely dry spell with gorgeous crisp sunshine especially so this week.

Roll on end of Jan/Feb for the next opportunity for something colder.

Nos da bawb ❄️

Thanks for the welcome  😍last winter was much better than this one including the January cold spell we had, last year there was widespread snow all over wales on the 18th and the snow lasted on the ground for well over a week! There was also the cold spell in December and of course in march

I’m still waiting for my posts to get approved 🙈 here’s hoping for the beast from the east in February to hopefully bury the whole of wales on snow!

Another freezing morning with existing laying snow and ice across much of the county.
Big impacts on school closures across Pembrokeshire again today.

Dusting of snow here since a few showers yesterday evening, our last cold and icy morning today for a few weeks.

Storm Isha has been named and Wales will bear the brunt based on current predictions.

Anyone got any recommendations on a decent weather station?  I have a mobile alerts technoline base station. Over the years the wind and temp elements have failed.  Do I just buy extra parts or go for something new?

Snow yesterday evening, frost overnight so snowy and cold this morning,  Oswestry in Shropshire surprised  by snow.  When I went in this morning they had more than the hills.  Sun stronger now so most snow/ice melting apart from up on the tops and frost pockets.   Off now to look at Storm Isha…….

Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station. The data is collected every 2.5 seconds and the site is updated constantly. This site and its data is collected using Weather-Display Software. The station is comprised of an anemometer (roof mounted), a rain gauge, thermo-hydro sensor and a solar radiation sensor (garden mounted) situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible.

Admittedly, the Davis weather stations are most certainly the best and most accurate the serious amateur can buy but has a price tag that not all of us can afford. The big advantage is that the wind sensor is separate and can be mounted much higher than the rest of the suite. We had one in my former workplace and I'm proud to have managed to place the wind vane at top of a 10 m high steel pole secured with three steel cables fastened at ground level. It's a pity that most weather stations now have all sensors in just one suite so the wind is always measured far too low or the rain and temp far too high. Apart from that general flaw, the Ecowitt stations appear a fairly good alternative to me.

I've got 2 weather stations in my garden opposite sides one is 6m and the other is 9m and the 6m still would get higher wind gusts than the 9m.ive noticed that the 9m weather station wobbles alot.does anyone know if that decreases wind speed?

First set of photos were taken yesterday after the brief sleet and snow showers in the early hours. We had a light sleet shower around midday that then cleared to sunny spells for most of the afternoon. But then a heavier sleet shower came over in the very late afternoon which would later freeze and compact during the night hours as temps fell below freezing leading to lethal icy roads.

Then these were the scenes we had this morning as we walked up our local road after the temperature had reached its lowest value of -7.5C.😟

Really not good that the roads were not gritted as several people had been stuck around our hamlet for most of the day as they haven't been able to drive back out.
