Happy new year to everyone.

A much better day today, sunny and light winds. I took the outside lights down today as I am back at work tomorrow. I had to use an old pallet under the ladders as they would just sink in to the waterlogged ground otherwise.

Yorkshire would be in for a right pasting if that materialises

Well another miserable day on the Yorkshire Coast, yesterday was obviously a blip. Heavy overnight rain cleared but by mid morning we had persistent light rain which has got heavier. A lowering cloud base means its now misty here. At least its not windy (yet). Fields look even wetter than on my last ride.

First day out on my bike this year, Winds very light, Force 1-2 SSE, all over grey with mist on the higher bits, light to medium rain, I got well wet. Temps 8c but feels colder with the rain and damp.

This is the view looking towards the Wold Valley taken from near Grindale Airfield.

An absolutely vile day here. Sky grey from horizon to horizon, heavy and persistent rain since late morning. Had to put a light on at 12.30.

Would not be surprised if there was some serious flooding reports by the end of the day heavy and persistent rain here pretty much since yesterday evening in Sheffield

Yes it's vile isn't it, I'm on 30mm already today and loads more yet to fall looking at the radar. It's dark and grim so matches my mood back at work today 🤣

Only 8mm here, looks like we missed the heaviest of the rain today.

Yep - looking interesting as we move through Jan. Maybe even some snow showers next week if the initial high sits far enough north (e.g. latest GEM or GFS 6z) - though nothing special at this stage. The retrogression towards Greenland, should it happen, might be deliver something decent for our region. Either way, it will be drier, which is much needed!

Well if it carries on raining you'll end up being right just ahead of your time.:)

Rivers round here are doing fine some at the high end of normal levels which surprises me a bit.

Haha yeah could be!

I was wondering about the rivers so that's good to hear they are ok.

I guess the good news is that after today there's only showers mostly and then hopefully drying up at the weekend and next week. Hope this is the last rainy day for a while 🤞

Flooding and road closures in the usual areas here sadly, which usually lasts a while and brings with it some pretty rubbish traffic.  Thankfully the upcoming dry spell should help.  What a grim few weeks it's been weather wise.

Incessant rain providing a miserable first day back at work, local lanes and fields flooded in places i haven't seen for many years on my commute, thankfully a dry period in sight with wintry prospects on the horizon.

Not raining today, a plus. Winds light, W force 1-2 at lunchtime, and cloudy. Temps 8c.

The water from this wet spell has left numerous spots inundated, field furrows are full of water and every ride out brings more mud back on clothes and bike. Here is one new 'pond', there is often standing water at this point, but never on this scale. Bear in mind we are on the chalk here, which tends to drain very quickly with very little or no open water under normal conditions.

More unwelcome rain today. Garden is saturated. At least a dry spell is coming up.

BBC news page pic of the mass flooding at Beverley Westwood.

Some local farmers saying that c. 75% of their fields are under water too.

My village had flood alert warnings overnight.

Thank goodness for the drier forecast as others have said.

Another dry day here so far, and one or two of the large 'ponds' are showing signs of reducing. Hopefully the dry spell will continue, but forecast is showing more rain overnight with an easterly setting in by the morning.

Lunchtime brought SW winds force 3-4, temps at 8c and long sunny intervals, although its clouded over a bit now

It feels like we are due some "old school" winter weather at the back end of next week, any thoughts from the more knowledgeable contributors
