Based on the mood in the main thread this morning it looks like we may need to hope for the best tonight and tomorrow!

Personally, a NE “Kent/Medway streamer” works best for me. Jan 2010 was the best for that. Nothing beats that constant flow, with every shower topping up the snow from the last one.

That streamer was superb. Gave a foot of snow where I was at the time. Deepest snow I've ever seen. 2 days worth of near constant snow.

The netwx 7 day forecast "called" the start of the week having snow of some kind around 5/6 days ago. Surprising that it has kept to it, with varying degrees of detail of course.  Shall see how tomorrow actually comes about.

Gutted to hear the precipitation to the east is falling as rain for you folks 😔 saw that on radar the moment I woke up and got all excited for y'all... hope it changes to snow for you all 🤞

It's looking even colder than first thought for Monday "Small pocket of -14 uppers into the extreme south east on the latest 06z ukmo". I always say for us in Kent, and towards London :p That for snowfall I prefer -10 uppers or below. Usually a good start point for snow streamers to set up. Keep checking the radar tomorrow! ( To that one poster, will get Swindon get snow? Just check the radar :p )

What I don't understand is with the models showing 850 temps of between -10 and -12 across us tomorrow coming from the east how come the met office is forecasting highs of 3 tomorrow? I would have expected highs to be 0 at most. Maybe they're just overestimating as they tend to do in cold spells 🤷‍♂️

If we can't get an ice day with 850s that low I give up.

The met and the bbc do this pretty much every cold spell. They always inflate the temperatures by a few degrees typically until the day it occurs

I'm going into the next day or so with a very open mind, I usually do well out of a Thames Streamer, once it kicks in I want to start seeing longevity. Just a few centimetres on the ground will certainly hang about for a while, changing the landscape......and as a landscaper I'm not sure how much work will get done next week, ground will certainly be firm 😁

the first chilly morning of the year, and the cold air is arriving. Yesterday at this time we were cloudy and at 6c with a dp of 3.4c. Today it's sunny, temp 3.2c and DP 0c.

BBC are suggesting some accumulations now for South East. Will be down to window watching for you lucky folk down south. But you don't get settling snow at 5c,odd

Is it actually snowing in the SE?or is it wrong

I would think some of the higher points are seeing snow.

For me, we had some sleet a short while ago in a heavier burst, despite it being 3c with a DP not far lower.

I mean tommorow if the uppers are right it won't be 5 degrees. As I said earlier the bbc often overinflates daytime highs. That's the maximum temp it could reach which I think is s stretch. Many places could struggle to get above freezing

So it wasn't my eyes causing mischief on my morning stroll up the Leas.

Really cold - hands have just about warmed up.

In previous years, I would've been delighted with an cold, snowy blast but as I now work out of town, and reliant on public transport - there is that sense of jeopardy now!

Good afternoon all,

GFS 06z looking good for NW Kent, -10c uppers and a kink in isobar creating instability. Worth noting winds will be slightly more NE"ly than isobars suggest owing to the anticlockwise 'pushing out' nature of HP circulation. And of course, 2m temps over the sea are around 10c or so which will create some convection for sure, well clear of the 13c difference between surface and 850hpa temp needed.

Given today's showers, albeit sleety in nature, I'm confident we'll get the precipitation. Tomorrow, it'll be down to DPs and ground temperatures as well as the overall hit and miss nature of showers!

Good luck everyone, hope someone gets the snow they deserve!

Scrolling through the precipitation/ accumulation mods- already there is slight hints now at the double whammy possibility- wash to estuary streamer activity- now that would certainly get the juices flowing… an interesting 24 ahead for the region.
