My Mum And Dad.....

I thought I'd write about my mum and dad in this blog, seeing as they've been down this weekend....Now my parents are a pair of stars: both had had their fair share of trauma through the years. Dad retired at 50 due to ill health and my mum has early onset osteo arthritis and as well as having a double hip replacement at 50, also got hit with the menopause and a breakdown all in the same year. Recently my poor dad has been suffering from a neurological complication of his original illness which

Mini-raven's 1st Day At School

As some of you will know (as I haven't shut up about it!) Mini-Raven started school today. This morning, she seemed a little quiet, so I asked her how she was feeling about starting school. She said she was frightened incase she didnt make any friends. I reassured her that she would, and that all the other children are feeling like she was this morning. We had to drop her off at 9.30am, and we walked her into the class room. Her eyes filled up with tears when we had to leave, but after a cuddl

Snake !!!

Went to York yesterday in a vain hope of finding some clothes that 1) fitted me 2) did not look totally molly.......failed miserably but bought some boots to go with my existing maternity trousers  En route we slowed due to traffic in a place called Strensall, just outside of York. To my left was a vet's surgery and a bloke in his mid-twenties stood looking at his feet a short distance from the door. Being curious (nosey) I looked at his feet to see a 8 foot (at least) snake, which was a

Scan

Well today was my 20 week scan.MiniLoo was being very good and keeping still until the radiographer decided she wanted pictures of his heart. Then he decided that he was going to jump about like mad but it was nice to see him being active Then he decided to behave and lay down with his hand propped behind his head in a sort of laid back kind of way :o Anyway, he's(/she's) ok. Everything is fine and well, no signs of any problem with it's kidneys. To be honest we had a full frontal shot and I

Driving

well, what can I say? After an 8 year break from driving (after only driving for 6 months) its like I never gave up.This time around, I am more mature (well, there are those that would argue with that statement) and don't feel the need to wizz here there and everywhere, and am taking things at my own pace.Instead of feeling self conscious (sp) when someone over takes me, I couldnt care less. When I was 19, I used to take that kind of thing personnally. The only bad experience I have had was d

Nursery School

Today was little fella's first day at Nursery School, he seems far too young but he was fine. In fact he loved it to bits and can't wait to go again I can't remember ever looking forward to going to school but it's lovely that he's happy and willing to learn Had to go to the dentist tonight for a Hygenist checkup. Little fella came with me and has changed from reluctant child to inquisitive child at the Dentist. In fact the Hygenist had to keep nudging him back from looking in my mouth as sh

London

HurrahWe finally managed to get to London without much incident. We travelled down on Thursday afternoon and I came back today. We had a good time visiting the Borough Market, a pirate ship (forget the name) Hamleys etc and the weather was glorious  It was very tiring though, not helped by hubbie sneaking off to South Africa on Sunday and leaving me to get home on my own Bless him, it's not his fault, it's work. 11 hours non-stop overnight and flying back on Wednesday night. But at lea

House...

Well I haven't written for a bit so I thought I had better....Moved in just over a week ago, and all went really smoothly which was odd...keep expecting something to go wrong, but it hasn't...it's making me very jumpy!!! :o Have finished most of the decorating (have only got the upstairs hall to do and mini-roo's room) but as both will comprise a lick of paint and a small tidy up, it shouldn't take us more than a day or so. Have to get a couple of bits of furniture too, but that shouldn't be to

Crabs

We went to Westgate beach today. Never been there before, but Mr R insisted on going as he spent many a happy childhood there (with his strange parents) back in 1982.Anyway, I grinned and bared it down there, knowing I would hate it purely because its associated with the parents in law from Hell (and believe me, I am not exagerating - if I wasnt so shy, I would be a star on ITV1's parent in laws from Hell programme)Anyway, suprise, suprise, it was a .................... suprisingly pleasant day

Bank Holiday

We had a fairly relaxing day and decided to do the touristy thing and go to Helmsley Castle. They were having a pretend siege, with lots of costumes, guns, etc. Well it was very loud with guns firing and canons Little fella was not impressed and screamed his head off He calmed down eventually but we did not spend as long as we would have liked to  Caught more people having a sneaky look at the house, so decided that we needed to have a bit of a tidy up just in case :o Had Roast Ch

Houses

Well had a busy week, we were supposed to be on holiday in Crowborough (nr Tunbridge Wells) but spent part of the week house hunting in Gloucestershire  Saw some dreadful, dreadful properties. They would make the 'How clean is your house' team cringe Eventually we found something which is a bit smaller than we hoped but in the village we really want and hence an offer has been made. Currently we are waiting for the second offer (first was rejected) to be considered (it's bank hol weeke

New Car

Well, its all very exciting (well, I guess I should be excited, but really I am rather aprehensive!) in our household.I have bought myself a car (not a new one - a K reg Clio) off my friend. Lovely little car, I have to say. I passed my test in October 1996, drove until the Summer of 1997, and eventually gave up. I lack a lot of confidence in myself and my capabilities when it comes to driving (among other things!)I had a few nasty 'road rage' episodes to the build up of me giving up. One of

Life Starts Here!

Well, what with a new job, clearing away the cobwebs, burning all the deadwood and so on - things are really starting to look up! I'll have to teach myself MS Excel...But hey, so what, I've taught myself far harder things over the years! It's great to be free of other people's emotional baggage for once? To be able to concentrate on the thing that really matters most - ME! :o  The satisfying thing about offering to help others lies, not in necessarily doing anything, but in the knowl

Moving....

Well today we have Marion and Peggy, the whirling dervishes of removals packing, putting the contents of our flats into boxes ready for tomorrow (decided to treat ourselves to the full monty of packing and removal....couldn't face doing it ourselves)....They're really lovely ladies, who are working so very, very hard: I'm really impressed!Anyways, for the last weeks we've been stripping, painting sanding and gardening and the house actually looks damn good, even if I say so myself....The carpets

Maps

Well, arrived back from Dymchurch unscathed (but a little sun burnt). We were, however, lucky to get there at any point today.Mr Raven, (the know it all that he is) knew the way to Dymchurch, so I thought, fair enough, he knows (as usual), I'll leave it to him.Well, I nodded off to sleep at Ashford, and awoke in Dover (of all places). The FOOL had driven on the wrong motoway. We needed to be on the A20/M20. He went on the A2/M2. We don't have an A-Z in the car because we don't need one (app

Phobia (one Of Many)

Sorry peeps - ignore this blog. Just noticed I had just done my 13th (shudder!) blog entry and I have a phobia against that number, which meant that I was convinced something bad would happen to us on our trip to Dymchurch if I left the house on that number of blogs.Since nothing exciting happened to me last night (not even a good dream to tell you all) I just thought I would let you know the reason for this silly blog entry.Phew, I can leave the house!

Tights (and Fat Thighs)

Hello everyone who bothers to read my blog and the exciting life I lead.....Yesterday, we went to The Hop Farm in Paddock Wood (Kent) Won't bore you with the details. All you need to know is I wasnt eaten by a goat. (Although a peacock did take liking to me) Not only that, but I didnt wear tights yesterday, and thats the whole point of my blog entry. (gosh - managed to avoid a waffling moment!)Today, we went to Howletts Zoo (in Kent again, funny enough)Had a lovely day, saw some tigers, gor

We Have A House!

Yippee!!!! The house finally went through yesterday and we went round yesterday lunchtime to have a recky, and it is even better than we remembered Needs a lick or two of paint in a coupld of the rooms, just to brighten things up, but apart from that, it's great.....It's a Victorian terrace which has loads of original features like cast iron fireplaces, stripped antique pine doors, stripped built in cupboards, quarry tile floor in the kitchen, and a lovely cosy garden which even has it's own p

Hastings

Well, have just come back from a lovely day at the Beach. Had a fabarooni time (I really must stop watching the Tweenies) the weather was perfect (a tad hot in my jeans - but not boiling) and the sun went in the clouds every now and again giving some rest bite. (trust me to have left my sunglasses at home)After being slightly traumatized on the drive down there by a squashed badger on the A21 (poor little thing) and a couple of run over phesants, we parked the car (eventually!) and headed str

A Matter Of Perspective?

How things have changed since my last entry!!! Now I know what real friendship is...Now, I have a friend without any 'untoward' connotations...And what a difference: no need to worry about appearance, impression or anything like that...Everything seems to have suddenly sorted itself out. Friendship is one thing. Allowing one's self to be seduced under false-pretenses is another. But, hey, we live and learn!!! :o He who makes no mistakes makes nothing!!!I'll be announcing something hap

Sunny Scotland...

Well, I'm back! And what a lovely time we had....10 days of sun and relaxation at my parents lovely home in SW Scotland. They live in a converted school on top of a hill (nearest neighbour 1 mile) and have an acre of land, a big barn, a bothy (workshop) and have lots of lovely walks and views all round their house.... it's heaven! We had a great few days: the weather was marvellous with only one day of rain, but the rest sunny and hot. We managed to get out and about lots, paddling in the sea,
