WillinGlossop its what drew my attention.

Considering it took off from Birmingham,  can't imagine the sight of it turning to avoid the tower blocks in the city.

An overcast day here, but the serious rain held off until late afternoon, so could have been worse.

I'm really not expecting any snow at this location and altitude on Friday, but those with a couple of hundred metres or more may have a decent chance. The last 'event' was looking good until things downgraded at the very last minute so I'll definitely be waiting until T+0 before getting properly interested, if it's still on the cards by that point. Metoffice not really that interested in snow away from high ground.

Plenty of snow symbols showing for Friday on the Met app for here and a BBC forecast showing snow both tomorrow and Saturday so if it comes off we could easily be looking at the best snow opportunity this winter.

or it could all downgrade at the last moment into a wet sleety mess as did the last event.

either way we will soon know.

It's certainly looking good for higher ground tomorrow, but at this altitude, I think we will be stuck with the worst case scenario, heavy rain with the temp sat around 3 degrees above freezing and a stiff Easterly wind. Yuk. Time will tell.

Manchester Airport TAF showing a wintry mix for tomorrow still think low ground will see snow falling but struggling to settle, higher ground could be looking at 10cm,expect a weather warning to be put out this morning.

cheshire snow Yes, I think a warning will be issued and the met will have to come off the fence in terms of heights for both falling and settling snow. It will be interesting to see their thoughts later this morning.

Morning.  7.4°C, overcast it's not raining.  Interesting still for tomorrow, looks like we will all be radar watching and looking out the window, it's part of the fun.  Factored in extra journey time for essential travel tomorrow  just in case.

Rush2019 it could certainly be an interesting rush hour for some based on that chart. I think I'll expect nothing, then if we see snow, it will be a bonus.

 severe snowstorm

I agree mate, this time I'm going to stick with the UKMO chart as this was the only one from the other week never to really show any snow to low ground and proved to be spot on. So to save any hopes being dashed it ISN'T on board with any lower ground snowfall once again.

Day 10   Yes, last time I could see the snow falling on the tops out east of Macc.  Settling snow from around 210m, hills became invisible whilst I watched sleet 😁

I think tomorrow has the possibility to catch some people out.

Looks cold enough through the whole profile of the atmosphere (though marginal) and winds are offshore.

A lot of places are going to see a period of heavy, wet snow. Probably accumulating from 100m + (slushy wet deposits) with more substantial accumulation 150m+

Odd warning for SW mention of snow.. but nothing for NW where risk of snow is higher, indeed met office states sleet tomorrow afternoon.. Possibly may be a warning in next hour or so.. certainly chance of significant snow modest heights.

damianslaw Probably going to be a nowcast situation.

After it dumps a load of snow, the warning will be updated .

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole.
