Hmmm once again it just doesn't look cold enough at lower levels. Like the last event.

Dark Horse Yeah, a striking similarity to the last 'event'. The automated metoffice output is showing a temp of 3C, heavy rain and a strong ESE wind here for a few hours during the morning, fairly vile. 😫

Dark Horse Yeah even slightly more elevated lower levels like yourself  don’t look likely to see much - higher parts of Gtr MCR, towns like  Macclesfield down to Stoke etc... all seeing more than likely sleety rain.
Plain cold rain here at 65m asl! ☔😄🙃

May as well put any cold prospects to bed until December Think I know why cold snowy spells don’t materialise anymore and it has nothing to do with weather patterns.

laters👍

Going up to see friends who live in the Lake District for a few days. I'm looking forward to seeing the fells snowcapped.

As already said, it’s looking like a repeat of the other last minute let down with cold rain and sleet as good as it gets for anyone not half way up a mountain.

i must admit to being sucked in by the build up to the early Feb event and being disappointed when it all went belly up at the last moment but no such expectations this time and no disappointment when it’s a few hours of wet sloppy crap that barely covers even the colder surfaces.

It’s March and the extra daylight of the last few days has put me in full spring mode so anything less that a full scale blizzard and I’m not interested.

Looks like it could be the 4th wettest winter on record for the region.

1123.4mm since the start of July 2023.  An annual rainfall total of that amount would make that year the 32nd wettest on record for the region

March 2023-February 2024: 1406.6mm provisionally

December 1999-November 2000: 1403.3mm

The wettest year on record for the region is 1877 with 1375.7mm

It's just started snowing here after yet another glorious morning sunrise before the frontal-system rolled in, the PPN band looks much thinner than what the forecast models were predicting but it's relatively slow-moving and there's a chance of some beefier showers behind this lot into the afternoon.
