A sign the growing season in full swing, dandelion flowers popping out everywhere, taking advantage of the warming sun... is it worth 6 months doing battle with them?

We've been sat under a narrow line of showers continually feeding from the Irish Sea all morning, some really blustery with hail lashing against the window at times. No mention of these showers on the metoffice forecast, although they do look to have been confined to this part of the region. They do look to have moved through now with sunny spells.

Decent start to the day here for a change... the wind has calmed down a bit and the sun showing its face more.  First use of the bicycle for a short excursion to take advantage of the springlike conditions.  Sadly the latest forecast is for tomorrows rain in the west to make more progress and sit over us according to the met....only yesterday the BBC were suggesting it would stay well out to the west.  Easter looking dodgy... no surprise for being in March.  Next year it will be almost a month later.

In 2024, Easter is on Sunday 31 March. But in 2025, it will be on Sunday 20 April. Why is that?

dodge Whilst from a weather perspective my preference is for a late easter, more chance of warmer, settled and sunnier conditions, from a general state of mind preference, an early one, such as this year far more preferable, kick starts the year in earnest after a long winter hibernation, gives a early boost to how you feel, a late April easter is too long to wait in this respect..

WillinGlossop just cooked Sunday dinner.  Chicken cooked in our fan oven. No air friers were used in the making of this meal.

Beautiful day for a change. Need more days like this.

Can't complain much about today, a much needed dry sunny one, chilly out of the sun and in the breeze, but pleasant in shelter and full sun. Lots of people out and about. Indeed first proper spring feeling day of the season, and good it has fallen on a Sunday.

Hope people have made the most of it, the week ahead looks thoroughly wet and dull sadly.

A decent afternoon after the showers of this morning. BBC forecast for the week ahead is far from promising, with rain tomorrow and Wednesday and showers on Thursday as low pressure dominates our Region's weather. Not good in the runup to Easter.

3.5mm collected this morning.  Drizzling now.   March so far 135.4mm.  Calm and very misty and cloud is obscuring the fells.  A dreary Monday morning.   Even the birds are in a quiet sulk.

Won't complain too much after a fairly decent weekend, even if it was mixed with hail showers on Saturday at times. But yea, this weather this morning is the same as my mood right now.

Had Worse Travel the line regularly. We went down the Meathop road adjacent to the Railway line at Grange 2 weeks back. Impassable whole area is one big sponge. The Golf course has resembled a boating lake for the last 6 months. Potential collapsed culvert.

Unit has damaged the Sea Wall. Big recovery job. Looking like a fortnight.

A very Monday morning weather wise, rain stopped by late morning, but its been a dull drab affair since, current temp 8.2 degrees. All in all a very Monday weather day.. and a big contrast to yesterday's feel good Sunday feel.

The easter 4 day period is looking more promising, may see a fairly decent dry and milder slot coinciding with Friday onwards, no heatwave or wall to wall sun, but if we can manage a couple of dry days and two showery/dank ones I'll take that, with Sat and Sun offering best chance of staying dry, my mood has been lifted with such prospects..

Rained ALL day here.  Currently just the odd spit.  The public lanes are flooded and mud has slumped from the edges where large vehicles have gone off the tarmac.   Everywhere is a filthy wet mess.   Birds other than the curlews. are in a silent sulk in all this gloom.   Hope the sun comes out for the Easter holidays.

As already said, rain throughout the day and a generally depressing feel to things.

Whether things will buck up for Easter is still to be decided but after the gloom of the last few months, it’s never been more wanted.

  • April 2024 - Was it that cold overall? A look at the statistics

General perception from many is that April was a cold month, but statistics would suggest otherwise, with the average temperature for the whole month coming in just above the 30 year average for the UK as a whole. A warm first half to to the month averaged out the cold second half. View the full blog here
