Not too bad today, fine, some sunshine, but still quite windy.

Lunchtime bike ride brought SW Force 5-6 which once out of the village made for heavy going on the 3 mile climb out of the village up on to the Wolds. Temps at 8C but wind made it feel colder. Broken cloud with some sun.

I swear the windiest nights this winter have all been non “named storms”

Blowing hoolie here  this morning yet again, I would estimate gusts close to 50mph. Bike ride aborted due to the wind, once out of the shelter of the village it was impossible to ride safely. Fed up with the windy weather. Bin day as well so plenty of rubbish blown about.

@mike57 wind cranked up a notch here at Carnaby in the last hour, not checked the speeds but certainly increased in strength,

Promising synoptics next week - as usual, it'll come down to exactly where the cold/mild boundary is.

The model thread won't be a true representation of cold/snow chances as it looks like rain down south, at least initially.

Nothing tonight gets me interested. Looks like Fi starts in a days time.

Next few days should firm the details up but gut feeling says any real cold gets stuck over Scotland.

If it does we could end up with a record warm month for Feb over England.

winterof79 can't see this verifying. Some in the MOD thread are underestimating again the warm air/sector. As it stands any snow will be confined to 300m or even 350m+ with temporary sleet in lower levels. Still early though as everything can change but my experience suggests the cold air will be further north and might not even reach North Yorkshire.

Oh and while I'm in here....

Friday 9 Feb - Sunday 18 Feb

Cold air already established across the northern UK is likely to extend to all parts through next weekend. As it does so there is a risk of some significant snowfall for parts of the UK, perhaps central areas most prone to this as the but this aspect is very uncertain at this stage. Across the north cold throughout with snow showers tending to focus on northeastern areas while for the far south the period may start of with some rain and near average temperatures, before the cold air reaches here by the start of next week. Windy at times, especially so in some eastern areas where a notably wind chill is expected. Temperatures ranging from rather mild in the south at first, to cold, perhaps very cold in the north.

Aaarrrggghhh. The southern snow watch thread, sorry I mean mod thread is so annoying. I get most members are from the south but it would be nice to give a true reflection of the output. I have no clue whether the UKMO and GFS 12z’s give us here in Yorkshire any snow. The boooooooms and upgrade comments aren’t helpful. It’s all about snow for the south.

Decemberof2010 imo it won't snow anywhere in lower levels unless there's something major I'm missing charts wise. The precipitation ones are bizarre. I reckon they rely on negative DPs throughout but I'd be very careful regarding this.

Wow the 12oz turns up with some nasty weather. Good chance of some widespread freezing rain with the cold air digging in fast but the cold uppers lagging a bit. All very tricky as there a steep temperature gradient with the uppers Wednesday morning. Thursday not quiet so steep but again a big potential for freezing rain for some. Yes a good chance of Snow as well for many but where and when is going to tricky.

Look at the temperatures freezing or close to in places with uppers that are not to favourable.
