Afternoon ended up all lot better than the morning! Perfect for an afternoon walk with my friend and his dog. Flowering has properly bloomed in the last week...looking very spring-like and pretty.

Hazy sun here today. Because of course we aren't allowed pure blue skies here!

But beggars can't be choosers...

In Absence of True Seasons Lovely. I see that your trees are blooming very nicely. They seem to be taking a while over here.

The forecast has proven totally wrong here again. It was supposed to be cloudy with sunny spells with it gradually clearing in the afternoon. Instead it was cloudy with a few sunny spells in the morning and now totally overcast.

34.5 hours of sunshine so far this month. This grey rubbish is relentless. Not a single clear day since 17th January.

Weather Enthusiast91 It was all still quite bleak looking until recently. The last week or so has really seen some growth.

danm It might not be up to the Met Office's standards which are quite stringent. Waddington in Lincolnshire that achieved 40.3°C on July 19th 2022 as well as Coningsby was disqualified for not meeting MO standards. There's a few old RAF stations, such as Lakenheath and Mildenhall, which are also apparently not counted. Mildenhall reached 15.8°C last Christmas Eve according to Weatherobs which would be a new daily record, but the Met Office did not acknowledge this station and only counted Heathrow's record.

There is no meteorological authority in the UK other than the MO so I'm not sure who else could be "officially" running LCA? If the MO have disqualified it then it can't be officially reporting observations to anyone 😕

Absolutely lovely day. Casting my mind back to this time last year and we're in a much better position I'd say. It really does just take those few days at or around 20C to make the difference overall. I'll be semi-content for another week or so after today and tomorrow with it being largely dry still. Looks like next weekend may deliver another nice warm spell (too early to be confident of course), but weekends are faring better for once.

danm Definitely isn’t warm enough for that here. We’ve had hazy sunshine, however there is moderate to strong breeze every so often, which makes it feel quite chilly when it’s blowing.

The cooler weather is quickly gaining momentum, something that hasn't been seen since mid January. Let's hope with it comes days of sunshine and minimal rainfall.

I've had a better look at the daily data and my previous claim of breaching 8C average so far was mince. Aside from some years that started off warm and then went to more normal January temperatures, the soonest YTD av of 8 remains 3rd of May, 1990 and 2007 having exceptionally warm starts to the year. As of today it is the warmest ytd so far though..

Managed to warm up nicely once again this afternoon, up to 18-19C. Despite the pretty thick high cloud sun still did its job and warmed things up nicely. Mowed the lawn for the 3rd time this year as well as it had gotten quite long since the last cut over 4 weeks ago. Good to finally be getting more than one day of something warm for mid April unlike last year!

A little jealous of the clear skies over France though!

A hazy, predominantly cloudy day IMBY today.  Warm, very comfortable & respectable temperature, no complaints there, just would like the cloud that just HAS to be present in some form or another, daily, to just do one for a while.  Would have been an absolute cracker if we had the blue skies to match the warm airmass IMBY.

Admittedly, much better still than recent weeks though, which isn’t really setting the bar very high.

Back in London and a very pleasant spring day with hazy sunshine and a respectable 20°C maximum temperature.

Unfortunately stayed pretty cloudy here - not much sunshine to be had. Cloud was relatively light though so a bit shining through at times. We're still waiting for the hat trick - the combination of warm (20C+), dry and mostly or entirely sunny remains elusive so far. Might have to wait until May given the current outlook, though still time for it to change for the last week to ten days of the month.

Metwatch literally not a single cloud over the entirety of Spain and Portugal 😆 Madness. I'm not even sure that's even a possible feat for the British Isles lol.

That is the ugliest satellite imagery I have ever seen. Looks like someone has just scratched lines all over a chalkboard! Frankenskies lol. Hate this kind of airmass as even jet trails stick, expand and act as their own artificial cloud coverage so you have double the block 👎

SunSean The con trails have become a huge problem in the past few years, ruining most clear summer's days with layers of cirrostratus which makes the sun hazy and weak.

It covers the entire sky more than not, this must be having an effect on the climate?
