  1. Pretty amazing down here in Tunbridge wells, haven't seen a storm like that for a good while now. Lightning every few seconds it seemed for about 20 minutes. Not sure but the thunder seemed different last night somehow but I think it was being in a bowl so to speak (at the bottom of the two hills) that it must be the acoustics of location!! Amazing!! Looking forward to the main event tonight....
  2. Well I for one am pleased that we've reached the crest and the slow, but relentless, descent into cooler, fresher weather and darker nights (albeit not in the short to medium term) is something to look forward to...
  3. At the risk of asking a twit question, why are tides stronger on a visible full moon? The moons always full isn't it?, we just can't see all of it all of the time!
  4. Maybe our delicate blanket of atmosphere is far more delicate, and sensitive, than we can imagine...
  5. A very non descript day of weather today in West Kent. In fact I'd go so far as to say today here was one of the worst days I can ever remember. Humid, overcast, still, grey. Carp!!
  6. We're in Agriculture (crop protection) and this has been the quietest Autumn and Spring season for years. Less than half of the winter cereal crop has been sown and it's looking increasingly likely that a fair amount of the heavy ground will now be left fallow until this coming Autumn (down here in Kent at least). Not so much of a problem at the moment but tenant farmers with very little to sell after this coming harvest will find times ahead very tough indeed. The larger owner occupied farms will be better placed to ride it out. Plus if anyone has forward sold any grain they may have shortfalls to make up contracts just when the grain price will rocket.....nice. People blather on about a warming world but it's cold that kills, slowly but very surely as evidenced here in the UK right now, right in front of our eyes
  7. Well that's a surprise at 4am on the way to work. Moderate dusting here which has replenished the whiteness at least!!
  8. From that radar grab I can't see this being as long a fall as anticipated? It looked like the heavier burst went North East through Belgium into Holland..
  9. Heavy dandruff here but covering everything fairly quickly
  10. When you've experienced January 1987 and February 1991 on top of the North Downs yesterdays 'event' was truly minuscule in comparison!! Dire really
  11. Considering the hype yet again it's a truly feeble snowfall event here. I have to laugh because as rain, today's system would have been a very high precipitation rate but as snow, oh no.. I think we've struggled to attain 10mm of snow.
  12. Hmmm, what's the outlook, roughly speaking, for Friday in West Kent. I'm a bit confused as to whether we're in for snow or not? Anyone know?
  13. So yet another massive watering down from snowmageddon! Laughable really, might as well read a plate of spaghetti as take as gospel the computer models. What a tragic waste of our lives hanging off every model run for what ends up to be a couple of vaguely frosty nights!
  14. I can't help but chuckle sometimes I've always questioned model output because, as far as I can see, you'd have as much luck reading tea leaves to forecast the weather. We've gone from snow and sub zero temps to potential zonal dross in a few short days. Funny really......
  15. Definite frost on the grass this morning on the way to work. Very chilly!
  16. The dark evenings can't come soon enough! Although I enjoy fine, dry weather, my favourite seasons are Autumn and Winter. Plus, my two boys who are 6 and 4 might just go to sleep a little quicker. I've explained a hundred times ( to no avail ) that 8pm really is nighttime despite the fact it's bright sunshine outside!!!
  17. Snowing just a bit here in Wrotham (just at the foot of the Downs) at M20/M26 spur.....
  18. Same here re the woodburner. My wife lit it at 9.30am and it's been roaring away all day. It's lovely laying In front of it after being out in the cold all day!!!
  19. Has three weeks on model output roller coasting culminated in one or two days of light snow or might there be more to follow next week?
  20. Whilst i enjoy exciting weather like this i have to say enough is enough. It's broken my new fence, smashed the greenhouse and is playing havoc with my woodburner, blowing smoke back down. Fed up of it now......
