The Midlands Regional Weather Discussion 19/12/2013----->
PolarWarsaw replied to Nick L's topic in Regional
It's a shame it'l almost definetely not happen, but tonight's ECM was probably the best run since 'that' ECM. We all know what happened to that ECM run! Get it down to t24 and I'll start to be excited. -

Charts look better, but the MOD thread feels like a celebration. If the runs changed so easily over the last 24 hours, watch them do so in the next. If the cold comes into t48 and less then I'll be happy, until then I'm not so bothered. It makes the MOD thread entertaining. -

I think someone mentioned a few days back that they expected the Cold to come very close to our east but need a second or third bite of the cherry to get the cold properly into the UK. Tonight and indeed the last couple of ECM's sum that up perfectly. One suspects that tonights ECM is bang on for the medium term, cooling down with a drier period, before things turn chillier, messy and wet rather than white again. The last week of January and February excite me greatly. -

I don't care for wind, rain, thunderstorms or even a big freeze. I just want it to snow. -

Turned very wet out there, looks like coming to an end now though. We can return to endless days of cloud and no weather to speak of. The worst kind, absolutely dreadful. I suspect we will remain to far west for the first potential cold shot that ECM is showing, but it's nice to see that things will be cooling down. Aslong as things are active, I'm happy. -

I don't mean to be rude, snipy or aggressive. But eastily is spelt 'Easterly'. Just one of those petty annoyances that has caught my eye when you post. -
Winter 2013-2014 Discussion- Part 2
PolarWarsaw replied to Cheshire Freeze's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Winter start - Early December Winter end - Late March Current date - January 5th. January 5th > End of March = 2 months, 3 weeks. Early December > January 5th = 1 month MAX. Sorry, did someone mention that half of winter or even 'most' of winter was over? As far as I'm concerned, if we get 1 chunk spell of cold snowy weather (Even a week) this winter will still be better than virtually all of the last 10+ years pre 09/10. People writing winter off as nearly over in my mind, either can't read a calendar or have no concept of seasons. 1 month down, 2 and a half to go. -

Better charts tonight if your a coldie. The margins however, are so fine and that is something to worry about, even when a cold snap looks nailed on in the UK a drama of some sort (normally Shortwave) puts the cat amongst the pigeon somewhere along the road. Lots more runs needed and given the ECM's 'carrot dangling' performance so far this season I think it's fair to say it's a cautious optimism tonight, optimism nonetheless. The best evening for a coldie in 6 weeks odd I reckon. -

I can see this winter ending up how it's gone so far, tentative signs of change in FI but nothing coming to fruition properly. Hope I'm wrong though. If that's to be the case, I hope we break some wind and rain records! -

Been a very wet day, quite enjoyable though. Much prefer this over dry and boring. If it can't snow, let it rain and wind. -

They are all waiting to hog the snow come late Jan/Feb/March. Won't be able to get shut of them at that point, you watch! -

Chilly last night, one of the coldest feeling nights since March. Outlook looks poor for cold, let's hope the storms and heavy rain keep on coming! Keeps things interesting. -

People only need to take a look back as far as 9 months to realise, we are 3 weeks into winter with as much as 3 months of it left. -

Standard December day really, wet and quite windy - nothing special. We rarely do get anything special here though do we? -

Covering of hail here around 1pm, felt chilly in and quite vile in the wind. Wintry though! Charts offering a little more promise tonight, here's hoping. -

I think it's fair to say that there is 1 word that can sum up the models at the moment and that is 'unsettled'. Personally, if it's not going to be cold I hope it rains all day, every day for the remainder of winter! The Mildies can be comfortably warm, but miserable and wet that way! The last month or so has been the proverbial 'bake a cake and eat it' for those who enjoy mild weather and I think it's fair to say - that's no longer 100% case! Really looking forward to the potential wind, squall, hail, snow and rain in the next 7-10 days as they at least keep things interesting! The outlook, sadly - doesn't look great for Coldies, not until 2014 has arrived anyway. -

Intense squall just passed through. Bins out for tommorrow have deposited themselves around the street. Sky went off for a while, intense rain and the wind made it impossible to open the front door. -

Shefali quite bullish about a covering of snow tommorrow, even to low levels and especially in the west. -

Why are people so negative? Yeah, the outlooks poor. Oh well, it's 3 weeks until Christmas and January, February and March are always better for cold. It might not be snowy but it's not zonal, the actual weather is the real thing to be negative about. It's been dull for months and will continute to be for another fortnight or so. Put yourself to the start of summer - it's like people saying 'THE SUMMERS OVER' - 'THERE'S GOING TO BE NO WARM DAYS THIS SUMMER, NOT 1' in late May. Farcical. Get a grip of yourselves. Winter's only just got it's head through the door (in seasonal terms) - it's here for another 3 months minimum.
