  1. who needs weather charts and forecasting. we only need to look what the weather is doing on the eastern US seaboard and our weather will be the total opposite. Extreme cold and snow in Boston and New York usually means snowless and average to mild temperatures in UK. Just an observation.
  2. would love to take this trip but I don't think my savings of a few pounds will be enough, do you?
  3. tedious winter yet again. I think rather than looking at charts, etc in the future we just need to see what the weather is like on the eastern side of the US. when they get cold we get mild or average and when they get warmth we get cold. simples!
  4. oh well nearly the end of another fairly rubbishy winter. I will be glad to see the back of it to be honest and hopefully some spring and summer warmth, although knowing the UK climate, we will probably head into a cold phase come May which will last until September
  5. was snowing lightly in Northampton around 7 this morning and Leighton Buzzard area 30 miles to the south had a fairly decent covering and still lightly snowing at 8am. Looks like these areas will have light snow on and off for the next few hours.
  6. I wonder if Northampton will cop anything tomorrow then? most of the snowfall this year has been too marginal and I'm not convinced that this latest event will be much different. I could be wrong. I just wish the weather could be a little more predictive as I commute to London each day and it can be difficult to know whether to go to work if it starts snowing in the morning or to leave work early if it starts snowing later on. You just never know whether its going to snow a lot or a little or even if its going to settle or not. Impossible to make decisions when the forecasts are so changeable.
  7. I agree with you that this winter has been on the cold side, however the snow events have been marginal and even compared to past 'mildish' winters at least we seemed to have a few days of lying snow whereas this year in the east midlands we have been lucky if we even had lying snow and then if it lasted a few hours. I wouldn't call this an cold or average winter by a long shot. As for raging blizzards, I would be happy with a few hours of heavy snow so not really asking for a lot I don't think.
  8. I will agree with you totally on that. yes it has been cold this winter generally but the snowfall amounts and regularity have been nowhere near as high as in the past 8 years here. even when the snow has been lying on the ground it has melted within a few hours whereas in previous years it stayed on the ground for several days in Northampton. So all in all quite a poor winter in my eyes too.
  9. the east midlands isn't that great either believe me. yes we had snow the other evening but I had all melted by midday the next day. I suppose we do get some cold weather but we have much less precipitation as we're in the east.
  10. the moon has poked its head out now so I guess the current snow is coming to an end but I think thoughout the night we may see a few more showers and hopefully thoughout tomorrow. I think its a snow day for me rather than trying to commute into London and back.
  11. well that was a nice surprise this evening. been snowing in Northampton for the past 2 hours and now have a decent covering.
  12. well that was a nice surprise this evening. snowed for 2 hours and have a nice covering now in Northampton.
  13. hoping Northampton might be in the firing line for some decent snow covering this time around.
  14. its so typical, we get cold weather with just the right dew points ...and there is no precipitation around just dry air mass. I'm sure as soon as the precipitation rears it head again we will be back into the mild regime. happens every time.
  15. I'm booking my winter hols to Norway next winter. at least there you can be more or less guaranteed snow and cold. UK is just far too hit and miss.
  16. to be honest I don't think they really know what is going to happen even a few hours before. the 'bitter' cold they were forecasting for the weekend and early next week don't seem to be materialising to be as low as originally predicted. I don't regard a low of -1 as being that cold to be honest considering we are still in winter. a daytime high of 4c is hardly worth warning of either.
  17. Nice surprise to see snow in Northampton yesterday and overnight. had a decent covering this morning and very icy side roads and pavements. our first snowfall for 2 years so was happy to see it once again. At least when we do tend to get a snow covering it stays around for a few days rather than thawing after a few hours so that is nice too. Looking forward to maybe another snow event early next week I hope.
  18. I can understand some folks getting frustrated especially if snow is such a big deal to them. I think your suggestion of moving somewhere else is a little harsh though. I would love to live in Canada or the United States but unless you are a millionaire or have a work permit then they won't even look at you, so not as easy as that I'm afraid. If it was I would move there tomorrow.
  19. commuting back from London yesterday afternoon was slightly weird. It is quite usual to not have snow in London itself but to hit the snowline about 30 miles north but yesterday I didn't hit the snow belt until literally 5 miles from Northampton then it went from green to white almost instantly. People wouldn't believe how weather could change in such a short distance. We had quite a covering in Northampton and more overnight. this morning was a bit of a challenge getting into work though.
  20. Northampton really is dire. everyone seems to have had at least something this year, but here we haven't seen anything for over 2 years now. pathetic.
  21. I should think so too....that was nearly half a century ago.
  22. raining in Northampton....now there's a surprise. not! no chance for those further down south if it aint snowing in Northampton then.
