  1. its all very well with the weather turning colder but if we continue to get snow showers rather than a heavy period of snow it will never settle on the already sodden ground surely?
  2. just had hail shower in central London. sky turned very dark just now. looks like the cold front is pushing through.
  3. I agree. Thomas is always enthusiastic when it comes to snow in the forecast. I remember he was the main forecaster during the 2010 snowfest and he was brilliant. I think he always brings good luck for snow. Him and Rob McElwee. The others are mild rampers.
  4. Looking at the model thread it seems the charts are finally showing some decent wintry weather over the next week and potentially some good snow events over a lot of the country. Does anyone know if east midlands stand a good chance of getting snow this time around?
  5. I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates it when freshly fallen snow is disturbed
  6. yes it most certainly can snow at 7c but it needs to be at least 3c or below for it to settle.
  7. as usual, us in the east get next to nothing. I want the second option please
  8. I agree this winter is better than last winter, but then again could it have been worse? We have seen 2 marginal events this winter, one which saw snow falling for about an hour before turning back to rain. if that is the best a UK winter can produce then we might as well live in the tropics.
  9. shock horror...the UK could see temperatures as low as -2c in the next few days and some places may even get 5cms of snow. Will civilisation survive? I would sell my grandmother to be living in New York. I wish I could be a refugee and escape from the UK's rubbishy weather.
  10. i agree it can snow well into April but any lying snow is very short lived by then and not worth it in my books. we have another 2 week window left of this winter in which we can still get reliable snow and lying snow for a few days but after that, forget it. this winter is quickly running out of time. yet again another disappointing winter and sadly they are becoming the norm.
  11. yes i know we live on an island at the end of a warm ocean, but sometimes, just sometimes it would be nice if we could have at least one or two days of countrywide snow each winter. not too much to ask for i don't think...even for a temperate climate like ours.
  12. while eastern USA gets hammered by yet another historic winter storm with up to 4 feet predicted to fall we are left with the 'will it' 'won't it' snow for the end of this week with a paltry few cms of snow ... if we're lucky. we really are a pathetic little island when it comes to winter weather and I personally have given up any hope of having any decent snowfall this winter or for the next few winters for that matter. total rubbish again this year.
  13. except us in the east midlands and east Anglia that is. just so typical of this winter. when we get the potential for snow it doesn't make it to us and then when it turns milder we end up with the rain. abysmal
  14. fed up with this winter now. apart from some frosts there has once again been no snow for us in Northamptonshire. I love the snow and cold but would rather it was warm and spring now if all we are going to get this winter is cold icy rain and sleet. Not excited at all just another boring old british winter non event.
  15. I wish the azores high would disappear and the annoying jet stream take a hike south to north Africa for a change. wishful thinking I know.
  16. I know a lot of places in the north and Scotland have had some decent snow events this winter, but here in Northamptonshire this winter is actually worse than last winter to be honest. At least it was milder last year rather than just cold with sleety rain. I love the cold and snow but would rather it be mild than this 'marginal' stuff we keep getting. This winter in my eyes is quickly going down the pan and unless something decent happens before mid February then I will be glad to see the back of it.
  17. surely multi million pound computers can be more accurate than they are currently? otherwise what's the point. Might as well just stick with the way they used to do it 50 years ago.
  18. I should point out that even Northampton which is 60 miles north of the M4 didn't even have snow yesterday just a sleety mix before turning fully to rain. Not sure why some people or forecasters use the M4 as a dividing line between snow and sleet/rain. Northampton hasn't had any snow for the past 2 winters now and I have lost my patience with the models which never show anything concrete or definite as regards snow and even when they do, they downgrade. Just totally fed up with the british winters now.
  19. All I can say about yesterday's 'event' was utter rubbish. I give up on british winters now. just too marginal too often these days. could we possibly have had a worse winter than last year though is the question?
  20. well I for one give up now. all these marginal events are becoming too common and this winter is rapidly turning into a non starter as far as snow is concerned for the midlands south. I am going to stop listening to the models too as they are too unreliable and just stop being so optimistic as regards snow and cold. Britain is very good at producing cold rain and wind but not much else. If I could move abroad I would. Tired of it now.
  21. Basically this island is crape at winter lets be honest. Not going to waste my time anymore.
  22. Absolute rubbish yet again, although even worse than boxing day when at least we had an hour of heavy snow before it turned to rain. These marginal events are way to frequent and quite definitely pants. I give up in this country. Winter=no snow.
