  1. having lived in wales i think this is more wishful thinking than reality im afraid
  2. well i spotted one or two small flakes a few minutes ago but nothing dramatic.....yet
  3. true. we have had some good snow in the past years apart from the last 3 winters so hopefully we might get lucky again this winter? it seems we either get a good snowfall or miss it altogether unless there is a north easterly or easterly event.
  4. we tend to miss marginal events like these in Northants so i am praying that the predictions for the northern part of the east midlands to be the sweet spot. will let you know how things pan out later, fingers crossed.
  5. at least you have had snow this winter, we haven't even had falling snow let alone laying snow.
  6. even when we get the cold we still have rain, albeit colder rain. typical crappy UK weather.
  7. this countries weather is pants. finally get a cold snap and what do we get? yet more rain only this time colder rain. can't win.
  8. we haven't even had a dusting or even falling snow so far this winter so count yourselves lucky. we only had one day of snow last year too so if this year we get nothing then that means one day of snow for the past 3 years which is ridiculous even for the mild UK. totally fed up with this countries weather.
  9. at least you had snow. further south we had nothing but cold rain. so much for this cold event. I can see us having yet another snowless winter if we cant even manage to get snow in the middle of winter. damn this countries weather.
  10. abysmal winter continues. finally get some cold and what do we get....more rain only colder rain. can't win in this country.
  11. snow can fall with air temperatures up to 7c however for snow to settle the temperature needs to be 3c or under.
  12. what is the point of the weather models when they still flip all over the place even a few days before the events? I might as well just toss a coin and see where it lands as to whether it will be mild or cold. As for all the hype a few days ago about the upcoming cold spell being something quite special, well that all went pear shaped ....yet again. I am really beginning to hate the british weather now. Yes it is unpredictable but that is precisely what I don't like about it. And it really isn't that unpredictable when we can reliably forecast that rain, mildness and wind will be a fairly common feature in any of the months.
  13. true but once you have February gone then any cold or snowy spell is much reduced due to the lengthening days and higher sun. Yes we have had bitter cold and snow in March and this is not unusual as winter seems to kick in later and later these past few years, but again these events would be far better to have in midwinter than in the early stages of Spring when they don't tend to last as long due to the reasons given above. I will give this winter until the end of February to buck its ideas up and then give up for another year. Next winter I will make sure I book a holiday somewhere that is at least snow reliable for one week as I don't think I could bear yet another snow free winter in the UK.
  14. not expecting great things from this cold snap I have to say. The fact that we will have a few cold days and nights compared to what we've had so far this winter doesn't really make up for this abysmally boring winter this year. I fear that with only a month or two left of winter we are seriously running out of time for anything decent happening snow wise this winter....yet again.
  15. basically long term forecasting is guess work and even the most avid forecaster cannot predict what the weather will do further than even 5 days in advance so pretty much a pointless task for anyone to undertake.
  16. although I did have to scrape the car windscreen this morning. who would have believe it. Middle of January and I have to scrape ice.....OMG!
  17. the models are absolute rubbish and a total waste of time. if they practically all agreed yesterday on the cold spell and have now flipped back then what is the point. And also why even bother to comment on models more than 5 days ahead when you might as well toss a coin as they are impossible to predict anything more than 5 days at the very most. I for one will not be following the model thread from now on. Been let down far too many times now. I would rather just take the weather as it comes.
  18. I think its a total waste of time watching the models now after following the models thread for the past few days. Yesterday it was all excitement about the cold prospects for next week and today the models have done a virtual u turn. if the models cannot reliably predict beyond 3-5 days then what is the point of even looking at them. I really can't see why bother to get all wound up just to be disappointed yet again. I give up with this winter now.
  19. to be honest 2010 wasn't that brilliant in terms of snowfall in the east midlands. I think it was more the intensity of cold that it will be remembered for. Winter 2009 and early 2010 and 2011/12 were far more memorable in terms of snowfall though.
  20. 'hopefully'? what a spoilsport he is. I mean whats a few days of snow after the awful December mild mush we've been subjected to.
  21. i agree. hardly any thunderstorms in our area last summer either and no real heat either considering it was supposedly one of the warmest summers on record. all the excitement seems to have gone from the british weather unless you like lots of wind and rain that is.
  22. not sure the fact the eastern US having unseasonably mild temperatures is having an effect on our weather too. last year they had record snow and cold in the eastern seaboard and we still had a mild winter. i was hoping that the mild winter in the US might have meant we would have a colder winter here but obviously it doesnt work that way either. it seems that on this island on the edge of the atlantic just gets the dross of the weather whichever way you look at it.
  23. been looking at the model thread and how some people can get so into that is beyond me. the models seem to hype something up only for it to be dashed and then they say maybe the next bite of the cherry will get us to the cold, rinse and repeat. why bother? the multi million pound models seem to better at determining a forecast than me sticking my head out of the window and saying its going to be cold. i hate the weather in this country with a vengeance and just wish i had been born in a country which at least has kind of seasonal reliable weather or even fairly frequent winter and summer weather rather than the once a decade or two exceptions we get on this island. Rant over.
