  1. I can now see the edge of the storm to the west of me - lots of towers and etc
  2. Yep it's literally 20-30 miles west of me - I really ma hoping this baby drifts east!
  3. Quick question anyone - I keep hearing the trough down south moving east etc if the trough is causing the storms to develop down there what's causing them to develop further north? Sorry if this sounds thick! Aslo if the storms down south move east with the trough what direction will they head in the north? The storm to the west of me in the north Pennines has really exploded now...
  4. Definitely a pre-thunderous sky and feel out there today - that cell to the west of me has pepped up but not sure if it will drift this far east or continue building!
  5. Cells popping up over the north Pennines now to name a spot (a few all over the country now) - it fares well for this area I think but the next thing is for them to form proper and drift eastwards...
  6. Well here in Durham just to the east of the Pennines it's humid very warm and blue sky's apart from to my west where it looks a bit more milky. Beautiful day either way here - bonus to get a storm but if not I am enjoying this taste of summer!
  7. I'm in West Boldon and the current shower has deposited close to a CM although think some of it may be the graupel type? so very heavy in other words. Some more packing in behind but will fizzle out soon so very transient today.
  8. Nice lot of showers making themselves this way this morning. Opened the blinds to a nice minimal covering of the white stuff. Not a lot by any means but nice to see either way. EDIT - location is West Boldon currently.
  9. I agree JP - national weather this morning hinted at some "possible" significant and disruptive snow if the low slides in the right place, mainly for SE/NE Scotland and NE England. he actually used the word explosive easterly, probably meaning some form of convective one..... Take of that what you may :-))
  10. Me too - I could actually just stare at that map for ages haha sad but true. You can follow the airflow being sucked down towards the low pressure it's pretty neat.
  11. Thanks I think its sustained wind speeds well it ties in with this area if it is. The wind speeds to the south of the core are almost sustained hurricane force winds if that's correct so gusts must be 90+ MPH. I am happy to be corrected though.
  12. Can I just ask these are sustained wind speeds aren't they and don't show the gusts? Or do they?
  13. How accurate are these CMD? Just wondering as it is showing 110km winds for my area and didn't think it would be that strong down here... EDIT: Sorry just checked and 68mph ish so that ties in. Not very good with KPH!
  14. Great cam - and them talking on it must be the only Scottish accent I am struggling to understand! I have never had a problem understanding the Scottish accent before but that accent is strong. Are they talking about the storm?
  15. Wind is really howling here now - you can hear the gusts banging in to the side of the building. Nothing too serious mind but likely to strengthen through the day so expecting 65-70mph perhaps later?
  16. The winds are pretty strong across the NE region too albeit no where near as bad as across the border. It's been pounding the office windows for a good few hours here but appears to be dying back somewhat. The noise early hours this morning was like a freight train running through the whole house! God only knows what it's like across Shetland at the minute. To be fair as far as wind storms go this is a fairly strong one from an IMBY point of view although just some trees felled etc and not the destruction that there is further north. Stay safe peeps!
  17. Winds are already ramping up around here - expecting a few bad gusts early hours and in the morning but nothing too extreme in these parts.
  18. Same for here or there about anyway!
  19. Well I would be happy to see falling snow - the band is further east but would be surprised to see that coverage... it would mean the front would have to pep-up very soon! Well we can compare in an hour or so and see if it was right lol As Nick says the hills are killing it so far..
  20. Yep - strangely enough it should be snowing or raining right over my house but it isn't. Perhaps you are right. It does seem to be spreading though on the radar so who knows , we should know in the next hour or so.
  21. Radar suggesting this band much further east than initially forecast - some very light disturbance making it over the Pennines, but waits to be seen whether we will see something meaningful out of this...
  22. Thanks mate - so maybe a few little CM's then - not bad seeing as I had given up hope lol
  23. Anyone stab a guess at how long this will keep up for?
