  1. Not a great update if snow is what you are after. All mention of the s word is gone from both periods.
  2. Actually when I did a proper measurement it was 3cms
  3. December 2017 was close. 6cms here from the slider on the 10th. Seem to have done pretty well for December snow in the last decade or so, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2017 and now 2020. Throughout the whole of the 80s and 90s there were only a few years I remember settling snow in December, 1981 being the obvious exception.
  4. Similar in Coggeshall. I underestimated earlier. When I did a proper measurement from the top of the wheelie bin it was 3cm. Melting slowly. Rooves, grass and cars still covered. Pavements and roads slushy. Temp now 2c.
  5. 4th of December 2020. Forecast was only for rain but the rain turned to snow in the early morning and left a surprise 2cm covering on all surfaces.
  6. More snow here this morning than in the last 2 winters combined.
  7. A slushy 2cm here in North Essex Easing off now. Temp 0.4c dew point 0. Roads are a nightmare!
  8. Snowing in North Essex between Colchester and Braintree. Probably 0.5cm so far.
  9. Just driven through some heavy rain on the A12 North of Chelmsford, no thunder or lightening as far as I could tell. Back home and the murk seems to be lifting a bit. Dare I say it might even be brightening up. I remain very sceptical of the met office forecast and warnings for the next few days but time will tell.
  10. Odd isn't it. My local forecasts is pretty much the same and it was updated at 4pm, if anything it sounded more severe than the morning update. I was reading it, checking the radar, checking the temps, checking lightening sites and thinking really met office are you sure about that? It seemed obvious by then that the cloud hadn't cleared preventing temps from rising, I was forecast 25 it made 20, preventing convergence which prevented convection, preventing storms from forming. Ok not as simple as that but you get the idea. I guess they were let down by whatever models they were using or relying on them too much. I'm not particularly having a dig at the met office, I think they do a fantastic job most of the time, but this forecast was wrong before it was written. Of course I shall take it all back if I'm woken by a massive storm at 3 in the morning.
  11. Only made it to 20.3 today but still 19.7 now with 85% humidity.
  12. Those storms in the Netherlands seem to be going crazy at the moment so maybe they are supposed to head in our direction.
  13. I was wondering if the met office forecast is going to be a complete bust though. Latest radar images suggest that any showers that are around are now dying out. I would have thought we would be seeing developments by now if their forecast stands a chance of panning out but maybe things will start happenning a bit later. It's wait and see I guess. The forecast seemed quite confident about heavy showers and thunder storms this evening and overnight.
  14. East of England forecast on the met office site still going for heavy showers and thunder storms during the evening and overnight. And it was updated at 15:58 today. So they must have used their time machine to jump into the future and update it. Presmably if they can do that they should know what the weather's going to be like as well!
  15. Looks like there's a solitary strike on Blitzortung from that. https://www.blitzortung.org/en/live_lightning_maps.php?map=12
  16. Are we really expecting more storms today? Just overcast with bits and pieces of rain and not overly warm, although quiet humid only 17c at the moment. Doesn't feel like there's much chance of T-storms later per the forecast but we'll see I guess.
  17. I can see the occasional flash from here. Not sure if it's from the cell out your way or the ones in the North sea.
  18. Threatening skies all around this part of North Essex, a few spots of rain starting to fall. No thunder or lightening though.
  19. Just noticed we're under 2 seperate thunderstorm warnings for Saturday. Twice the dissapointment
  20. Showers seem to be fading once they hit the north sea. I hope this one makes it.
  21. Don't think this is a very accurate measurement but I left a bucket out in the garden after emptying the paddling pool last night and there is now 15mm of water in it, after the storm earlier.
  22. Easing off now, was a good little storm while it lasted. Hope it makes it to you.
  23. Absolutely hammering down now. Seeing some decent flashes as well now. Thunder not particularly loud though.
