  1. Storm just started here in north Essex. Lots of rumbling and heavy rain just started.
  2. Well quite a contrast to yesterday morning. Low cloud and a northerly breeze dare I say it almost feels a bit chilly.
  3. Lots of dark clouds to my west that have blocked out the sun. I'm pretty far east and I can't see anything on the radar that close by.
  4. Yeah, I hope that's not the imfamous "Thundery rain" that turns out to be just rain.
  5. Click the down arrow next to your name at the top of the page. Select Profile then edit your profile and add it in there.
  6. The radar animation on the met office site has them moving north but disintegrating half way across the channel.
  7. Hey the latest meto office automated forecast is giving me a 60% chance of a thunder storm at 8:00am tomorrow morning and 50% chance between 3 and 5 tomorrow afternoon. I realise that there's just as much chance of this not happening at all but it's better than nothing.
  8. Looking at the blitzortung site I can see there's a massive storm wasting itself in the North sea. https://www.blitzortung.org/en/live_lightning_maps.php?map=12
  9. No idea how accurate it is but if you play the radar animation on the met office site it's just going to disintegrate in the channel, along with anything else that attempts the journey between now and the end of tomorrow.
  10. It's hugh but doesn't seem to be making much attempt to cross the channel.
  11. A paltry 23 here in North Essex at the mo and much more barrable than the last few days although the humidity is 82%. Had a heavy, non thundery, shower at 7 this morning. Since then it's been mostly cloudy. It's bright at the moment but the sun hasn't broken through yet and it keeps threatening to rain again.
  12. Well it's raining, but no thunder or lighting just plain old rain.
  13. Google photos "Remember this day" has just popped up with 28th Feb 2018. 17cms of snow, heavy snow showers on and off all day, temperature never higher than -1, snow day off work for me and off school for my daughter. Brilliant day. Oh for more days like that...
  14. Great pics. Love wendover woods. Used to live in Hemel so would go up there quite often.
  15. Both but green is heavier. Light blue usually doesn't amount to anything at all.
  16. Been looking at this for London. Ensemble probabilty weather forecast | TheWeatherOutlook WWW.THEWEATHEROUTLOOK.COM Ensemble or probability weather forecasts help to asses confidence levels in the 16 day outlook. The snow row is 17 for Feb 11th, which means 17 of 23 runs are indicating snow on that day. I've been checking it this week and its been as high as 20 and as low as 6. Now this is only 5 days away so this seems like fairly good odds but I expect it will come to nothing as no mention in any forecast of any snow down here. Why is the GFS so bad at forecasting snow it quite often shows snowy charts 5 plus days away that come to nothing? I think someone even posted a chart earlier today of us getting a pasting on the 14th.
  17. Don't really understand the point of the whole naming the storms thing. They only started doing it a few years ago, when they seemed to name every bit of wind and rain going. It just seems to create media hype.
  18. Reckon at that range they're overdoing the mild just like they overdo the cold. Expect it will be milder than average but not to the extent shown here.
  19. The 80's were good compared with what we have now but not every year was cold and snowy, well not down here in Essex anyway. 81/82 - awesome. December had 4 separate snow storms and snow on the ground Christmas day. There was some thawing in between the snow and a general thaw soon after Christmas but then a proper blizzard in early January. 82/83 - poor. Don't remember any snow in winter but had a couple of cms in April that lasted a day. 83/84 - one 3 inch fall in Feb. 84/85 - good. A freezing 7 to 10 day spell in January and one in February with decent a decent snowfall for each. 85/86 - very cold Feb but not much snow. A snowy breakdown on 1st march but thawed by the evening. 86/87 - one amazing 10 day freezing spell with over 1 foot of snow and massive drifting in early Jan. 87/88 - mild and snowless 88/89 - mild and snowless 89/90 - mild and snowless.
  20. Sky very dark, very windy a few spots of rain but no lightning or thunder.
