Winds of up to 100mph are set to batter the North, with 70mph gusts expected elsewhere. Laura Young, of The Met Office, warned last night: “The worst of the winds are going to hit in the early hours of Thursday, although it will remain blustery after then.†Forecaster Jo Farrow, of Netweather, said “the floodgates will open†for cold Arctic air to sweep across the UK. Outbreaks of heavy snow are expected across Norway with rain across Britain stretching in across the Low Countries through Sweden. For much of France and Germany it should generally be dry. Dry across western parts of Poland with some snow in the east. An area of heavy snow will stretch across Russia, down towards the Baltic States, Finland, into Belarus and Ukraine.
