Not looking good now for another cold spell. And if we can’t have cold, I’m happy now to wish for warmth! Good to see signs of the Azores high ridging NE into April.

Some people need to grow up. If you want to bicker and snipe do it via PM. Because the rest of us don’t want to know.

This place is confusing. Steve Murr saying it’s the beginning of the end while others saying the heaviest stuff is still to come? I think I’ll reserve judgement because most predictions have been wrong.

Well I’m under the blob and have moderate snow.

Anyone in Suffolk who can verify what’s falling out of the sky under the green radar?
-
-
Well after this little green blob the radar is clear with nothing coming from the North Sea. Starting to have doubts now.

I had the same discussion with a very old gentleman at work. He said that he has noted the shifting of the seasons. Not sure how much evidence backs it up but he said that it used to be the September used to get quiet chilly but spring would arrive early march.
Nowadays we have a very warm september/october but get a colder march/april.
We have had warm Marchs and April’s in recent years, not to mention very mild Februarys when the daffs have been out. All part of the natural variation of our climate.

in the UK we are more likely to have snow in March and April that we are in December. Contrary to popular conceptions (eg, christmas cards, etc). thats always been the reality and not just because of global warming. If anything maybe they should consider changing our winter season instead of being December, January and February to February, March and April instead?
Bit hard to justify winter being anything other than the coldest three months of the year on average.

Hope this gets more exciting later. This insensity of snow could go on all day and would add very little cover.

Well the blob is approaching me near to Halstead (north Essex) so I should be able to report how heavy it is. Currently light to moderate but I’m not under the green bit yet.
-
Maybe Suffolk has been wiped out by the blob which explains the lack of posts from that area!

That blob . . . Essex in line for a pasting from that.

Phil Avery looking excited there!

Uppers that low in mid March are exceptional! The fact that this place isn’t in meltdown is only down to what happened 2 weeks ago.

All models agree this evening on a cold frosty and mainly dry setup.
Of course some coastal snow showers also
From what I can see there is quite a bit of model disagreement.

Cannot believe that we are seeing another son of the original beast coming straight for us!
The way things are going, it could well be a spring known for fire and ice style setups. A balmy 15c to potential ice days. Wasn't 1975 a good example of wild swings?
Spring 1975 was quite cold overall as far as I know, culminating in the snow at the start of June. Then we had a very good summer.

I think everyone is still recovering from the last beast, hence it being less busy in here.
Easterlies seem to be like London buses - you wait for ages then two come along almost at once!

I think they are covering themselves. Can’t see anything hitting us unless I’m missing something?

MO has nothing showing for my region for tonight and tomorrow...
Those forecasts change all the time. Of course there is a chance of not getting anything, but it’s way too early to call it.

Can we safely say that the North and North East of London has seen its last snowfall today?
No!

Such a shame that all that snow out west is going to waste.

Let’s see if we can get an eastwards correction for that band of snow. You never know.
Model output discussion - after the beast, what next?

The Beast from the South East looks highly likely now. Exceptional warmth for April - wonder if the 29.4C record is under threat? I know it’s too early to tell, but who knows?
