Talked to a few family members who seemingly not taking much notice of the warnings - reminds me of that scene from Devil wears prada - hurricane blowing outside which is dismissed as a breeze not funny, but evidently how many folk feel in the province.

London & the South East will see a mini-heatwave....
Nothing to see here.
(assured, if this was about to impact the capital, it would be the BBC's main story)

The mean wind speed on met office doesn't get NI above 29mph, this was issued at 7pm.....anyone else find that unusually low, could be why the haven't issued red warnings.
?
This is Newtownards in the East of Province, where my family is located. Mean wind a lot higher than 29mph. -

All schools and colleges in status red zones close
Yes, in Ireland. Is it the same for Met Office designated red zones?

Anybody know if it's mandatory that schools close on red alerts.
Was wondering the same thing... i have family in NI, wondering if the kids will/should be in school tomorrow... I hope a red warning will make the decision for them.

But coastal Wales is getting the same as N Ireland and they're on an amber.
The Met office model obviously does not show the same impact; these advisories are subject to change in any case.

Whether it does or not is here neither nor there imo, Cat 4 at landfall would still be a disaster.
Actually, it does; as the wind gusts would be significantly higher.

Looks as though Miami will escape the worst of the winds .... so what was seen as catastrophic for the city yesterday, looks not so bad today.

There are signs on this morning's EPS means of the Iceland/UK trough weakening and drifting east whilst at the same time the Azores HP pushes north just west of the UK and also drifting east. This would portend a much more settled scenario with the temps nudging above average.
around Mid-September?

Awful Bank holiday weekend here. 14C and constant rain or drizzle.. Summer did not return.
In NI until Wednesday - it has rained on and off since I got here last week! Today was humid and wet, tomorrow is to be dry with 16C. Talking to folk here, summer did not return.. tho it never actually arrived at any point this year.

It's going to hurt if it turns out they're leading us up the garden path!
Really? I mean, will it? Considering the models have led many up the path this summer... i'd consider this just another merry dance.
GFS firm. And as we saw back around mid-July - when the GFS op, control and most of its ens suggest the same evolution update after update - it's hard to disregard it.

After a string of summers feturing heatwaves or repetitive Spanish plumes, every summer since 2014, I'm happy with the way this Summer has turned out, on the whole although GFS's insistence, now in the ensemble mean, on a height- rise over our shores, is rather worrying. I'm hoping that ECMWF is has it nailed and that this Summer ends mercifully.
to be honest, the GFS Ens are merely showing dry & average temp wise.... I could easily live with that for a couple of weeks.

That's great news. Probably means a cooler than average September too.
Perhaps an early frost or gale in the offing.
That is the hope - a cooler than average Autumn would be the ideal... and the recent August update from the Met Office ensemble system fills one with hope.
(July 2m Temp Sept - Nov) & (August update 2m Temp Sept - Nov)... certainly edging down.
