  1. Not sure what to make of the gfs and ECM at moment. Yes some colder pm shots. But just seen tweet from Ian ferguson saying westerly pattern to dominate till end of jan now. With any cold signal been tenuous.
  2. Think here in yorkshire it's time to make sure everything is tied down and take cover. Looks like we could see winds in excess of 70mph starting Friday and over the weekend. Can see some damage from this unfortunately. Take care guys and stay safe.
  3. Looks like we could see a 945mb low hitting Scotland and Northern England fri/sat on latest output. This would bring gusts in the range of 80mph and heavy rain. Think with the cold chasing we could be missing the nearer term. Looks like it could be very nasty stay safe. And hopefully models will downgrade it over days ahead.
  4. Not liking the gfs and ukmo tonight. Some very damaging winds on that output along with heavy rain. Very jan 2014 on those charts. Hopefully downgrades over the coming days. But with the cold flooding out of u.s I fear we are going to see a lot of damage if tonight's output verifys.
  5. Well the ECM is garbage tonight. Gfs para has shades of jan 2014 written all over it. No signs of any northern blocking at all tonight. If storms and heavy rain are your thing then your in luck. Sorry can't posts charts as just on my break at work.
  6. Snowing again in huddersfield nice covering again.
  7. Giving up the ghost here but been good. Afraid radar showing it dying at death rapidly.
  8. Looking at the radar it's moving away now. But certainly not bad here 5cm happy days. Was good while it lasted. Hopefully take kids sledging in morning.
  9. Hopefully get another 1hr out of this before it clears away. Much better than I thought it would be about 5cm here in huddesfield.
  10. Snowing in huddesfield but looking at radar unlikely to settle seems to be moving south to my untrained eye.
  11. With the precipitation set to pivit and move South think here in huddersfield will just miss out. Expect Sheffield southwards to do well though enjoy people. I'm off to pub.
  12. Raining steady here in huddersfield don't really expect any snowfall temp 3.5c
  13. Raining here is West Yorkshire. But looking at bbc forecast not expecting any snow. Perhaps some sleet if we're lucky. Although I think precipitation will move south which seems to tie in with bbc forecast.
  14. to be honest I don't think West Yorkshire will see any snowfall as such. Think Sheffield south will see some. But seeing latest bbc forecast the snow looks like missing West Yorkshire area
  15. but west yorkshire looks very unlikely to be in the path of the snowfall looking at latest update on bbc news. Looks like staying South of Sheffield barry.
  16. Hope everyone had a great xmas day. Now looking at the gfs this morning looks like we will see temps struggle this coming week. Before atlantic try's and makes inroads into next weekend but a lot of weather to get through before then. Looks like Wales and the Midlands could see some substantial snow tonight. But away from these areas more in the way of ice and frosts.
  17. 12z bringing in milder weather. Think the gfs is starting to backtrack towards the ECM solution now. So for all the stick ECM has had over last few days. It once again shows why it's the top model in the verification stats.
  18. Just looked at the gfs 06z run and that's a awful run for coldies. Think the ECM will be bang on the money. Yes it's been throwing out different output past t144 but we see that other models are moving towards the ECM solution. Also just read cohens update on the strat thread. And it's grim reading for a ssw. Now looking like late jan. I'm starting to wonder after all the background signals looking favourable if the mets lrf winter forecast will be spot on.
  19. sorry frosty but to me it looks mild upto Wednesday then perhaps a fleeting cold snap over xmas. Before we're back in the milder air. The models have taken a huge jump away from cold over last 36hrs.
  20. So the ECM looks like been right again. It is the top performing model so we shouldn't be surprised. All the talk last night of blizzards snowdrifts cold here to stay now seem a million miles away. Stick to t96 and don't get sucked in by the gfs fantasy island charts because otherwise you will drive yourself mad.
  21. sorry but how can you say it going to stay wintry for a good while. Nothing is set in stone yet regarding this cold spell it's still in realms of fi. And to say it's here for a while just seems abit premature frosty. Yes I like cold and snow but I also know the models could flip towards the ECM or we could end up with those shortwaves scuppering everything. Seen cold spells disappear at t48 never mind t300
  22. think if that actually did verify then most of the uk would be seriously in trouble. Thankfully it's way out in la la land. And if the models are struggling upto t96 at moment think that's got no chance.
  23. Would the ECM be such a bad thing. At least we wouldn't see coastal flooding storms heavy rain. Would suit a lot of people that suffered last winter.
  24. might be good for Scotland cumbria Newcastle etc. rest of us plenty of rain and gales. Not for me thanks.
  25. So once again were looking towards fi on the gfs and gfsp. Thinking back to what was said last night stick to t96 and avoid the disappointment.
