  1. If I had a choice of being in Northampton or Leicester for this cold spell, I would choose Leicester. Leics, Notts and Derbyshire are in good locations for showers and streamers. The models always under estimate PPN from showers and streamers. Seen it happen so many times in the past, from Easterlies.
  2. Our best chance of snow here in Northampton is from that band over East Anglia on Saturday night and into Sunday. After that, the wind changes direction and it looks like we would miss out on any streamers or showers for the rest of the cold spell. Oh well, I have to cycle to work, so no snow may not be the end of the world ?
  3. I hope Leicester gets plastered! I may have moved away 8 years ago but it'll always have a special place in my heart. I'm Leicester born and bred! I hope to move back there at some point, but that will depend on work.
  4. Maybe most of the mods in there are also based in the South East I used to visit the model thread regularly back in the day (pre 2011) but I usually just stick to the regional discussions now. I feel like we're all mates in here anyway! We pretty much all get along and we've been seeing the same members in here for years. Good to see familiar faces return each Winter
  5. I think sometimes in this thread, we all have a habit of speaking in terms of being biased to our own locations I'm guilty of that, as much as anybody else. Personally, for my location (Northampton), Saturday into Sunday looks decent at the moment. I'm hoping the low stays the way it is, currently! But I understand for Brum northwards, it doesn't look as promising for the Weekend. I still think all of us will see some heavy snow showers next week, though. The models are awful at forecasting showers from a Beasterly. Loads will blow inland from that strong wind. Even as far as Wales!
  6. Shez, I lived in Leicester for the first 24 years of my life and we always used to do quite well from a Beast From The East! If a streamer sets up in the right position, we've had 5cm+ on occasion. You're only around 25 miles South West of Leicester, you could do quite well if a streamer starts up Any showers will be blowing in on a strong Easterly wind (25mph+) so getting as far inland as Cov should be no problem.
  7. Much to my surprise, we have snow flurries in Northampton judging by the radar, it looks like we got lucky with a passing shower.
  8. This has been a very frustrating event. Despite the rain turning to wet snow here at around 10:30am for around 45 mins, we have had rain and sleet since then. Heaviest blob of PPN to reach us all day arrived 25 mins ago and all it delivered was rain with the odd flake in it! I would have expected some evaporative cooling to bring the temp down enough for it to have been all snow, but no
  9. Is it just me or is the PPN pepping up big style, to the South West Midlands? Moving Northwards as well. I would have expected the band to be moving away Southeastwards by now
  10. Well, much to my surprise, we have snow here now not remotely close to settling on the previous 4 hours of rainfall, but, it's nice to see I'll take it at this stage!
  11. I don't know why they jumped the gun on this, either. There was far too much model disagreement for today, when they put the warning out on Wednesday/Thursday. I was never confident on the 4-7cm they were forecasting. Good job as well, otherwise i'd have been bitterly disappointed Same with Monday's possible event. They've gone for a snow and ice warning here for Northampton and I fail to see that materialising either. Most of the models go for a short-lived snow to rain event for the North Midlands. Not a chance here.
  12. Having just said this, I can see a hint of sleet in the rain still, I don't think it will turn to snow before the band fizzles out and moves away, around lunchtime.
  13. This constant rain is tiresome. I've seen milk turn quicker than this! I've given up on this one, today. Is supposed to be turning more to snow in around 30 mins but, right now, it's not even close. 2.5c with a dew of 2c. One for the bin at lower levels, i'm afraid.
  14. I hope so That snow last weekend gave me a taster and reminded me how good it was That was the first settling snow i'd seen for nearly 3 years!
  15. You don't want to know!! 70m(230ft) ASL BBC Weather going for heavy snow here from 10am. What have they been smoking?
  16. This is brilliant. The temp has risen from 1.9 to 2.2 in the past hour. Just what we need for some snow ?
  17. Oh don't ya just love cold, hard rain on a Saturday morning
  18. Maybe the snow is too wet this won't be the powdery kind of snow we had last weekend, but more of a wet type. This a bonus for you though, you didn't even expect it to reach!
  19. Good old 'Inkleh! The extra elevation is probably helping. I think some parts of Hinckley are around 150m ASL.
  20. Promising sign!! The dew here is currently around 1.8c but i'm hoping that will drop as thr morning goes on. The rain wasn't forecast to start turning wintry here for another few hours anyway, so i'll probably check it again after 9am.
