  1. Hi Guys Am posting this on behalf of one of my friends on facebook who works in the making of documentaries for UK Television. Have copied in the request from Becky Below. Hope some of you can help to be apart of this upcoming tv programme. Pioneer Productions are producing a special documentary for C4 about the recent UK storms & floods. We are urgently looking for camera/phone video. Did you film the gales of the St Judes Day storm in October ? Have you been flooded out in December? Did you loose power and BBQ your turkey? Did you end up with wet tinsel and floating baubles? Have you filmed umbrella's being blown away, car's stranded in flood waters? Were you stuck on a ferry or in a plane/at the airport because of the bad weather? Did you witness a hail storm or thick fog? Did you witness/film any rescues? If you filmed any of the above please let us know! Video footage of any of this right upto the week could be included in our documentary. Go to Pioneer Productions - Uk Storms or follow us on Twitter @UKStorm_2013 Thanks
  2. I always love a super cold Winter in the US, Seems to always be a great season afterwards. Personally I think March will be the start of a more active season this year in the Texas Panhandle area (Music to Trevors ears no doubt) and also favouring an active April as well in both Dixie and South Plains. Loads more to go around in May and June but it is going to be tough going virtual chasing the early spring set-ups for sure!
  3. Yep think a zone from London South and Westwards took the brunt of this Storm, places like Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Surrey, Sussex and Berkshire were worst affected. Just driven the wifey to Rayleigh Station and all trains fine, no damage on route apart from some wheelie bins on their side etc. To put it into comparison, 1987 had schools closed for 2 weeks, no travel, nearly all roads blocked from fallen trees etc, the most impressive part of this storm seems to be the central pressure it has recorded and the bombgenesis of it falling from 1000hpa down to around 930mb in such a short space of time. Good luck with the travel west of London
  4. Nothing notable here in SE Essex. Trains running to time into London by the looks of it, no damage in the garden, hardly a breeze at the moment. Absolutely not on the same level as 1987, probably better than St Jude just for the length of the windy spell but not as much damage. Lets see what Friday and early next week brings. Stay safe oooop North today guys!
  5. ***BUMP*** Only 5 days to go until this event Come along for a few Xmas Pints and a Curry We dont bite.......well a few of us might if we get hungry enough
  6. Started out by having a look at Thorpe Bay and the Huts which were taking a pounding a good 2 hours before High Tide, then moved onto Central Southend near the Casino and then Old Leigh. - Huts at Thorpe Bay 2 hours before High Tide - Sea starting to Overtop near the Casino - SeaWater starting to flood the Seafront road - There is a Mini Roundabout under there somewhere and a road that leads to the Quay
  7. That wasnt you we met outside the Casino was it Steve, we were the 2 Burly Photographers with Tripods, me and Peter Scott. Went for a look up at Old Leigh as well, pretty impressive seeing as the beach is a full 8 foot below the road where the Mini Roundabout is. Down by the Casino along to Adventure Island has flooding over the road. Pretty much unscathed down here thankfully.
  8. My comments on Facebook are pretty much the same as you guys, the BBC & Sky should hold their heads in shame, absolutely disgraceful.
  9. Impressive Squall just came through on the Cold Front with miniscule Hail mixed in, Temp dropped from 10c to 5c in a matter of minutes, very windy but now all blown through.
  10. The 2am High Tide could be the one that overtops onto the roads along the SOS Seafront, this does not co-inside with the Strongest winds but the funnelling effect and the fact the Thames Barrier will still be closed could play a major part, probably best viewed from the Cliffs Pavillion if anyone knows the area, the defences near the Casino (On Stilts) are as someone else pointed out non-existant so the beach could end up on the road Might take a trek down there in the early hours but not expecting much to happen here like it is likely to do further up the essex coast near Jaywick for example. 11. So hopefully everyone now has received an email (some got lost in the pipework) and we can all look forward to seeing how much BA Reduce their flights in little over a months time and once Xmas is outta the way it goes really quickly. A couple of things from me, firstly there will be no pre storm chase meet up in 2014, this was to be in Liverpool but Mr Cameron has not got the spare time to get this arranged for March 2014, if people do want to meet up in say April just for a few pints then I am sure locally people can attend for example. Secondly we are now well on our way with regards to Staffing of the tours for next year, we will be having 2 Vehicles on Tour 1 next year, the usual 3 vehicles on Tour 2 (End of May) then back to 2 vehicles for Tour 3 and ending with 3 Vehicles for the Denver Tour middle to end of June. I will NOT Be driving in 2014 and a new approach sees me solely in the passenger seat for the tours concentrating on Radar and decision making more effectively. I will update who the Staff are in a few weeks time. Regards Paul S
  12. Lol Ok I take that drizzle Statement Back, now hailstones and rumblies!
  13. Brown Sauce on mine please Jo! I like this time of year because instead of me awaiting what weather I might get from Jo, She has to wait for me to send the weather to her. Which must mean its nearly silly season and winter is close
  14. Am still around Ian! Just not really been that much weather to talk about in the last few months, the US Outbreak the other day was not put on this part of the forum and I found it in the North America thread which was strange as we usually have a Virtual Chase set-up for these, was also out until 8pm on Sunday and the early start caught me out a little bit.
  15. Yep the 6th is my wifes birthday, which is why I remember this event even more, something that was amazing for this country was just how vivid the structure of the storms were and with some incredible Cg's none of this grungy rain laden mush, but more beautiful anvils and structure of the storms lit up and easy to see, like Staple these went on from about 9pm until 1am and were the best storms of the year for SE Essex.
  16. Had the chance of a little bonus chase day as a few of us are flying back a day later - So it was a local chase as once again the forecasts were for pretty much zero chance of storms in this part of Arizona, and pretty much what happened was the reverse of what the forecasts said. So we stayed local and watched clouds build and a bonus Microburst went up just SE of Phoenix Metro, we found a nice elevated position and watched this form in front of our eyes at about 5pm just 10 miles from the Hotel. - Microburst over Apache Junction - Structure Viewed from Fountain Hills Regards
  17. Watching Cloud Tops over London a full 30 miles to my West Light up - This is how it should be in the Summer
  18. Garden just lit up Blue from the Storm way off here in SE Essex, would suggest this had or still has very high tops for a Uk Storm. Reports of quite largish Hail from the IOW About an hour ago as well
  19. 5 Storms this morning, 3 largeish ones to the West all training between Basildon and East London and a few clippers up the coast that have been grumbling away, all of them elevated but very pretty, lots of Cg's observed and rapid intensification from Alt Cas to Storm in a matter of 15 minutes. Like Dan some pictures from this morning.
  20. Apologies to the SE Essex Folks, you did have 3 Storms last week but I AM BACK NOW! Hahaha Missed everything, totally dry here with Storms to the East and West, Mainly elevated anyways with IC Lightning and a few CG's would imagine, as others have said with some surface heating it could get lively further North and North West from the home counties later on. Will say this, some stunning cloud formations today with what looks like Undulatus on a few occasions
  21. Wow I dont like Norfolk....................Grrrrrrrrrrr Thick Fog and Severe Drizzle Pfft
  22. Tbh I would have thought NE England would have fared very well today, is there an onshore breeze keeping the humidity tother side of the Penines ? Dont really know the landscape that well North of Leeds etc, I know some of the guys further down the Coast have been complaining about a constant sea breeze keeping it cool etc
