  1. 6z brings the snow risk right down to low levels, but it does seem to have a snow bias since the 'upgrade'.
  2. It was in a north westerly (polar maritime) flow. Delivered a good few cm of snow, which all melted by morning. 18th January 2019.
  3. Always at 200 metres when I live at 149 metres above sea level. Better take up residence on the roof for another winter.
  4. Of course, 'cylonic' doesn't necessarily mean entirely mild and/or without some snow potential Maybe just not anything hugely significant or sustained.
  5. Some severe ground and air frosts to come from this weekend. UKV air and ground temperatures for Saturday morning.
  6. December 2010 wasn't related to a SSW either.
  7. February/March 2018 cold spells were exceptionally cold for the time of year. -18 uppers and numerous red warnings for heavy and disruptive snow. If you're only going to count events that were more significant than that, then your dataset is bound to be tiny!
  8. Winter starts and, as if by magic, the northern blocking, that has ruined the past several months but would have brought significant cold and snow in winter time, disappears.
  9. Isn’t a reversal a major SSW? It doesn’t need to be a reversal to be a SSW, only to be a major SSW.
  10. There's also a warning for dense fog patches, with visibility down to under 100 metres. I imagine this will be freezing fog with air temperatures below freezing. Could be a very seasonal scene come sunrise tomorrow. UK weather warnings WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK Met Office UK weather warnings for rain, snow, wind, fog and ice. 11. Thank goodness. Beautiful, sunny, cold and crisp, and some people prefer mild garbage to this. Unbelievable.
  12. Chucking it down, with all this moving from north east to south west. The billionth miserable day in a row.
  13. Having said all this, it’s been hammering it down the last few hours. A thoroughly horrible walk home from work.
  14. Peak district is to the north though, so don't understand why precipitation coming from the south and/or east should weaken on approach to Stoke. There's nothing in the way.
  15. Not so good when its a band of snow. Countless times last winter the snow died out just a few miles from Stoke. Rarely such a problem with rain, which makes a beeline for this place!
  16. Picking a dullest month here is a tough one. Every month is very dull. Honestly, this place has the most depressing climate.
  17. We are getting a few bits and pieces of rain but its largely dying about before reaching here.
  18. Now we’re getting to the time of year where it’s cold enough for snow, the weather fronts that have brought relentless rain here over the past 6 months naturally start to miss here.
