    Is this the first op run to show a white Xmas? I suspect this would have snowfall in the uk before midnight

    When are people going to realise the EC46 isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on (or the computer chips it’s generated on!).

    Not sure I agree that the attempt of a ridge fails on ECM at day 10?

    I think a lot of it comes down to the latitude of Monday’s low. The better runs for future prospects all had a more southerly low. The milder runs all have this low further north which effectively forges a path for the next ones to follow. Probably not a meteorologically sound post but it makes sense to me.

    Some bizarrely positive posts this morning! I think this morning’s runs are dreadful compared to last nights. The only crumb of comfort is the 00z runs are always over progressive.

    The euro models have been dreadful recently (and it’s yesterday’s chart).

    Far too far ahead to take notice of, but this must be the most dangerous storm I’ve seen modelled on nwp charts before. That would cause carnage!

    This is looking similar to icon so may well extend the cold again…

    I’ve noticed over the last few runs this area of HP is getting more pronounced at the day 5 mark. If that can continue it may help to change things in favour of retaining the cold a bit longer.

    No it isn’t. it might be the first run you’ve seen, but GFS has been modelling a cold spell for a while now.

    Now I’ve had my snow (enough for a snowball fight with the kids yesterday) I want to start looking for some warmth in the charts now. Got plenty of jobs I want to do outside but too damp and cold for that now! Need to pin my hopes on an Azores ridge I guess.

    Well if GFS is to be believed, plenty more snow chances to come this month. Wouldn’t surprise me if a mid month ‘mini Beast’ pops up soon
