  1. Still haven't got round to sorting out some of my footage from Sunday's MCS. In addition to the great footage posted on here, I've been enjoying some of the footage from the SW's pasting on Saturday. Watch this as one example...
  2. From my memory as a kid with no weather knowledge whatsoever, MCS did seem to occur almost on an annual basis. I also recall being under them, rather than on the periphery which seems more common today. I remember an event in August 1997 (I think) which to me then was terrifying and handful of others really stand out. Past few years have tended to be multi-cell events (ie lots of mid level cells coalescing) rather than what I saw last night. Lets hope for more of the same this year Feels very warm and humid here now that I'm back from the coast. Would be greedy of me to fancy a few more rumbles this evening, although the extensive cloud cover may not be conducive.
  3. Totally agreed TN26. Was posting in a tired and partly drunken stupeur last night. But in the (hot and humid) light of day, I can see without exaggeration that it was the most electrified storm I have ever seen over the UK. Last year there was a storm just as electrified but which mostly stayed over Belgium. Full range of lightning from IC to CG to anvil crawlers. Full range of colours, reds/oranges, to blues/greens to pinks/whites. Thunder mostly high level, muffled crackly rumbles, but there half a dozen ground rattling boomers and one shotgun crack. Echo what others have said, some of the flashes (more so the IC/anvil crawlers) went on seemingly for several seconds and covered the whole sky, in some cases from Hythe/Dover to Ashford. I believe there had to be every joule of 3,000 MUCAPE modelled to experience that. I've got some video and snaps to share, but not sure whether we can directly upload videos to here. Will have to wait until I have a laptop to fire up. Based on the models and TV forecasts I thought I had made a duff decision (in want of storms) coming to the coast. Apparently I was inadvertently right. As for today, very warm and humid at the moment even near the coast. Would anticipate one or two storms today but not going to guess when and where.
  4. Mate texting me just now from Medway saying there's incredible thunder and lightning there
  5. Only just seen the radar...maybe won't get out for a while. Might need to call it quits and head off to bed
  6. Awesome isn't it? Hands down probably the best UK storm I've seen and that's saying something
  7. Tell me about it, I'm a few miles south of you and the past hour has been insane. Had some earlier gorgeous displays as it approached and it's a shame I can't be out photographing now due to the rain. I hope it stops raining soon so I can get back out and hopefully catch some of these crawlers.
  8. I hope someone else is seeing this - tried to capture some video although not sure all the lightning has come out in it. The lightning in this competes with the supercells I have seen in the US, unbelievable showing. So so so pleased I decided to put family first and headed to the coast. Would have been gutted had I missed this.
  9. This is unreal - literally flashing every second or two. It's a proper electrical storm by any definition of the word.
  10. Scratch that - lightning flashing every second or so. Amazing for May!!
  11. Lightning is flashing every few seconds - had some awesome anvil crawler type lightning earlier too
  12. Got some decent photos I think - had to retire inside due to the rain. Had some close ground rattling CGs...somewhat disappointed more hasn't fired further west!!
  13. Flashing an absolute biaatch. Seen two big orange CGs, but still so far away I haven't yet heard any thunder. Few splashes of rain to boot. Hoping it's not going to squeeze just up the channel which seems eminently possible at the moment
  14. Whole southern skyline is lightning up like a peach - beautiful!!
  15. I can confirm seeing flashes to my S - bit depressing that they seem petty due S (though radar suggests they can't be). Getting more excited now - camera with shutter release on tripod, ready to go. Insect repellant coated on too ps - just seen how many members on! Feels like it's storm fever
  16. Certainly feels as if the warmer more humid air is starting to encroach here. Can see clouds starting to gather to my S and SW - hoping to see some flashes soon and then get my camera on standby
  17. Me too...was hoping to see some storms move in from the West, but at this rate I'll be lucky to see anything but flashes at this rate (which to be fair I'll take)
  18. Without wanting to be a pessimistic, unless that French lot explodes laterally, on current trajectory it's going to miss even me and I'm about as far SE as is possible to be
  19. The NW France cells are starting to get a NE swing on now...
  20. That webcam is brilliant - just saw loads hail bouncing off of it too. Can't see that being a problem for us as it becomes more elevated over the Channel
  21. Categorically the most electrified storm I have ever seen on blitzortung...unbelievable
  22. Latest NMM (12z) keeps the highest instability south of M4, but, has increased what there is (circa 4,000 J/Kg just off the south coast).
  23. The latest UKMO rainfall projections are pretty devastating. Apart from a narrow slither of heavy rain grazing the coast, all the action stays over the Channel and N France. Can't see that myself, although it's a worry! To think I hesitated about coming to coast just 8 hours ago.
  24. Should do! It coincides with the highly unstable air due to strat trundling northwards in the next 1-2 hours
