  1. Just to add, here's a few charts to show how the hi-res NMM model handles tomorrow's severe weather threat......torrential rain & potentially damaging wind gusts...Images courtesy of NW Extra
  2. lucky for here that we live on top of a hill, but I would imagine low lying nearby areas such as Chippenham must be at risk of flooding....Still moderate/heavy rain falling, but the good news is that the lastest 30 mins of the radar loop show the rainfall generally losing its intensity, also a clearance is now pushing into Somerset/Avon......For Wilts eastwards, still a couple or 3 hours of rainfall to come by the looks of things
  3. Flippin eck...just got home from work, and looked at the radar....it's going to be pants out there later!
  4. Wise words Steve, words I think some members really need to take on board this winter if they wish to see the spring with their sanity intact....and just to add my two-penneth to yours, F.I is called F.I for a reason, for possible trend spotting, with the emphasis on 'possible'....If anyone can show me a computer model that can show accurate predictions to day 32, then that computer is a demi-god!
  5. A top notch idea Steve I think it's fair to say that EVERYONE who posts on and views this thread regardless of mild or cold leanings values the time and effort that you & the other learned members put into your respective posts, and I think in light of the conflicting messages that often permeate the thread in terms of interpreting the model outputs that adding something like a verification probability percentage would be just the ticket!
  6. yep, what a dreadful last couple of days, real autumnal weather with drizzle, chill winds & plenty of mist/fog.....Drove down the Fosse Way this afternoon, and it wasn't a pleasant drive with general low visibility & occasional dense fog patches
  7. A landmark discovery...It's theorized that they could be billions of Planemo's in our own galaxy, and given the chaotic nature of planetary formation, this wouldn't surprise me in the slightest
  8. based on current model output, I would be very interested to see that particular forecast...lol.....forecasted T850's for thursday range in the +5c to +10c regions with dewpoints almost reaching double figures....we have more chance of suffering from heat stroke on thursday than seeing wintry precip!
  9. just a gentle reminder everyone..This thread is for Winter 2012/13 ....There is a complete sub forum for discussing historic weather
  10. some type of umbrella might be in order! Well, the rain hasn't quite reached here yet, close though, and some heavier pulses of rain are developing and training along the Front SW-NE....could be quite a wet night for some districts
  11. Was bored, so I thought I'd check out the long range CFS raw output for a bit of a giggle.....I've got some fantastic new coldies, a beast from the east is on the cards........The only problem being you'll have to wait 4 months for it, or for Torquay Utd to win the FA Cup....which ever's longest ..........lol
  12. So according to Helen, the weather might get colder as we move into the end of november into december.....blimey, not rocket science that!....lol Ok, I'm jesting...I know exactly what she means, the Met Office models are showing signs of northern blocking with LP's diving under the block into Europe meaning if the block is favourably placed then we could get an easterly draw
  13. Totally agree with the above comments, a cracking piece of work GP
  14. I had snow on Sunday, but would prefer it on a Saturday....damn weather, can't get anything right.....does that qualify as a moan?
  15. no I haven't....simply because I don't own a scarf or gloves.......times are hard, so I'm saving up to buy some in the Harrods New Year's sales....in 2052
  16. It was beautiful this morning Mark, crystal clear, but it was that weakening warm front dropping down through the region that has put a dampener (literally) on procedings
  17. A quick repost........If, in case you haven't see it elsewhere on the forum, here's Glacier Point's early thoughts on the winter ahead...A technical piece but well worth a look http://www.netweathe...ghts-2012;sess=

  19. It's been pretty damp in dreary this afternoon after a nice morning......and traipsing around Swindon, xmas shopping in the damp & cold made it feel all the more drearier
  20. Oh God, your incessant whining.....don't remind me!
  21. frosty here and icy in places, but a beautiful morning, not a cloud in the sky
  22. same here...it was cold for sure, but that was about it
  23. just posted in the convective thread, so a quick re-post here.... "Relatives down in Brixham have reported a decent thunderstorm there in the past couple of hours with hail & wet snow....Certainly looked quite lively down there first thing just off the South Devon coast....Looks like most of the convective activity is moving off the coastline SE into the English Channel" Back here in Wiltshire, it's a lovely start to the day, light winds & sunshine, feeling chilly in what breeze there is
