  1. It's a fascinating pattern we find ourselves enjoying this winter thus far, although we have not seen any substantial blocking, we have seen numerous cold incursions, with some anonymously snowy scenes for a fair few. And the general flow has been absent of the long fetch southwesterly, with the emphasis on a southerly jet and accompanying cool/cold conditions, with the odd wedge of northerly heights to aid the balance cool vs cold. I get the impression many winters of the early/mid 80s panned out this way. With this in mind I wouldn't bet against this potential 'transient' height rise to our north east actually delivering something more sustained than perhaps we have been accustomed to in the last few decades. Certainly makes for some interesting model viewing.
  2. Yep GEM excellent this morning and slides the low, resulting in northern edge snow and a following cold easterly, out on its own mind but certainly a possibility
  3. We are seriously cluttering the thread lol sorry mods, please delete when you wake up ha
  4. Don't change on my behalf, I'm sure many enjoy your posts. We are all different at the end of the day.
  5. Im just a keen amateur, though I do feel I have a relatively good grip on model understanding in general. i was not questioning your posts eventual context, I just find your style of grammar and spelling and use of non-words quite hard to fathom. Im sure you have solid knowledgeable and meaningful points to make, it's just I can't decipher them. goverend'
  6. Yep I agree, EC post 144/168 has its own ideas, but I think it's sniffing around lol. That low at 144 would surely end up digging further south opening the doors for a much more flavourable cold patten to develop. We shall see what transpires. At least we have some tangible interest re cold going forward
  7. Both ECM and GFS trending colder this morning beyond days 8/9 A more diffuse pattern allowing heights to our north east to build GFS day 10 would be mighty chilly with some really crisp frosty weather. And any sliders from the negatively tilted Atlantic flow could deliver snow. Certainly something to keep our interest as we follow the models over the coming days
  8. Just popping in here to see how you guys and gals are prepping for the potential snow For me the BBC app (very surprisingly) has been pretty much spot for the last two events down here, just a heads up for those wondering if it's any use. have fun you lot!
  9. Up juniper (follow the lane at the top of folly rise, Uplands) I'm in Uplands at 80 meters and this snowfall was actually a little better than the one before in terms of settling snow at the lower altitudes, a fair 2 inches here, 4 up top. You must have had a little micro climate down in Rooksmore, you near the main road or up a bit? ( I swear you used to live on summer street, always gets it good up there, quite an ironic name ha) Here's to a snowy Jan and Feb (for all the region!!!!)
  10. On the face of it some front edge snow does look possible before the milder air gets in and turns it back to rain, though due to the weak front ahead of the main one it looks like drizzle then rain. But you never know eh here's hoping for one last hurrah lol
  11. Good luck boys and girls hope you get plastered !!
  12. The showers that fade over the high ground are blown in off the sea, you need a trough in the flow to bring them inland without dissipating. When we get troughs and disturbances in a flow then ppn will make it across the land. Germany has very little coastline so they are not in any way prone to showers blowing in off the sea. And in summer the showers are convective which is something different altogether.
  13. ECM day 10 not without some wintry interest going forward I get a feeling that within the broadly west to east flow a wedge of high pressure here or there could well deliver some colder shots and potential snowfalls.
  14. Not a bad snow event here in Stroud, it was really enjoyable to watch its approach last night, with the lashing rain turning to heavy snow eventually about 1am. , not having to get up made it all the more fun This morning we had a good 2/3 inches although a little wet it was a good covering, I made a snowman with my niece who was staying over early this morning before the melt started. just been up the hill with the dog and although a slushy mess in suburbia the fields at eleveatuon are beautiful with about 3/4 inches of fluffy yet sticky snow. all in all a nice little xmas snowfall. simon the snowman just now
  15. Settling so much better than the event earlier in the month. Winter wonderland out there, looks quite dry and powdery. Looking forward to a walk and snowman build with the niece in the morning.
  16. Yep, finally eh bell! That thick drizzle now heavy snow and readily settleing :0 The snow the other day didn't lay as readily as this at our altitude so could be in for a nice covering if it keeps up
  17. Open it!!!! Bristol snow is a rare beast lol. Just take your wollies in case. And a bottle haha
  18. Still drizzle in Stroud just waiting for the heavy ppn to arrive. Shouldn't be 5 mins now if it's snowing in Quedgely I
  19. Right, a bit tipsy and everyone has gone to sleep except me the dog and the cat lol. Got the fire going and a Rum Chata in hand. I swear I can see the rain turning sleety :0 just watching some xmas Tv and having a gander out the window every now and again ( 3 minute intervals hahaha) will report anything white
  20. Down in north west glos 100m, still sleety rain but I can feel the change in the air! (No weather station) Ppn lightened but looking at radar we could well be in for some much heavier stuff soon and I'm pretty hopeful it will be of snow if and when it gets going.
