Model output discussion - after the beast, what next?
mulzy replied to Paul's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
A lot of that is the rain that is expected to fall on Friday. -
SE and East Anglia general weather discussion 03/03/2018 onwards

The 6z ICON that's rolling out now is a tad further to the south (cf. the 0z run) upto 18z Sat - but the Thames streamer is much more muted. All swings and roundabouts as one would expect. -

Hopefully London! We deserve a bit of luck in the capital!! -
Agree with most of those though I was too young in 1979 or 1981! Also March 2013 didn't quite deliver for the capital. Stand-outs for me were Jan 87, Feb 91 and Feb 09! I would add Jan 2013 - was very good for the western part of the region.

Snow easing now - not expecting much more - added 2cm to the existing patchy 2cm cover (4cm in total). Not too bad but feel that we could have done a little better given the synoptics. Anyway, onwards and upwards towards winter 18/19 (will that be the one to deliver big?)

Nothing much overnight - if anything a lot of the snow cover has gone! Getting colder here. 7am -0.9C 9am -1.2C

Sadly, I can't see anything noteworthy for most of our region today. The light snow this morning will continue to dissipate and die out. The more noteworthy band coming this afternoon/evening is likely to skirt through the western parts of the region (if we are lucky). Direct hit for the SW by the looks of it.

And unbelievably ithis ECM run gives us a chance for yet more snow on Saturday and no sign of a warm-up. Cold till Monday and beyond! Incredible!

ECM day 3 - still very cold across most of the UK. How will that channel low move? Snow across the south on Saturday - goodness me!- 1,198 replies

Snowing in RP after a day of melt! The south London streamer in full flow I hope! -2.3C
-
I think you've probably had less sunshine I guess. It's now -1.1C but I reached a high of -0.2C - still an ice day - quite incredible for our part of the world in late February.

Must be crazy in north London at the moment! Here is SW London, wall to wall sunshine but very cold. The sun has pretty much melted all the snow it hits - still a 2-3 cm in the shade. The wind has picked up too! -0.8C
-
Surprised to wake up to a covering of 2cm here in RP. (now makes this the best event since Jan 2013!). A band of snow showers must have passed through London I guess. Cold with a temperature of -4.8C

Quite possibly for the south, but far from certain for the north (see eps). The 'warmup' in the south could only be temporary - time will tell as ever. FWIW, the ECM Det only gives a maximum of 2C for London on Saturday.- 1,198 replies
