  1. A couple of pictures of the Aurora which I captured on Monday evening on the outskirts of Kiruna, Swedish Lapland. My first sighting of them for real and absolutely magical they were. Stunning natural spectacle and really is a big box ticked in things to see in life!
  2. Here is a couple of pictures of the northern lights which i saw in Lapland on Monday evening.
  3. Looksl ike a dry week ahead. I can't be excited by ppn about a week away. Always is the case with snow. I applaud those who have the energy to keep on chasing it. I am all for it but i shall just be happy if it arrives.
  4. Yes, daffs and some sprouting has happened for some time here too. Just now there is a lot of it happening.
  5. Back home now! Feels very warm after what I have been used to! From about -20c at night in Lapland to a toasty 14c today. Daffodills out and quite a few trees budding around here.
  6. Quite a few trees well into budding here, daffs out and snowdrops seen etc.
  7. I know it has been said many times but what real use to day 16 mean charts have? It's got to be so watered down that unless a very significant majority pointed to something, which lets be honest rarely happens around the uk. anomalies/spaghetti plots are always showing the locale from uk to Iceland as one of the most uncertain areas for prediction in the northern hemisphere. Hence finer details are easily lost. Looking at the broad long wave pattern I would take encouragement at the fact for foodies that there the sub 0c/-4c 850hpa lines sink a good deal south into Europe, embodying the uk within this mostly too. As a hemispheric view, it is clear our pet of Europe on that chart is where colder air is trying to sinking the most south in the northern hemisphere. Yes the core of that cold sinking south is more over Central Europe but certainly not without potential for the uk too and far from a poor outlook imo. In fact at the worst cold air around western/Central Europe and less over us to me at least indicates potential for battleground scenarios. So, as much as I don't support the use of means at such a range, the chart you use above would actually be quite good for those after cold imo. Just my opinion though. Happy to discuss further.
  8. Back in stockholm now. Will be back in the midlands on Saturday but before that we have some heavy snow forecast for tomorrow (Thursday) morning through till lunchtime. Not surpised to hear it's gone pear shaped in the uk again. Really has been a boring winter there.
  9. Up in Kiruna, Lapland currently. About 2-4 feet of snow here!!! Glorious! And seen the northern lights tonight too. Best day ever.
  10. Well we have had an unexpected evening here in Stockholm. A few light flurries were forecast/possible but instead we've had some heavy snow showers. A few cm's were laid in about an hour and a half! Not bad! Really nice to see and have proper crunchy snow underfoot again.
  11. Well we have snow at last as I travel to Stockholm! Only a dusting but nice to see the ground white for a change.
  12. If it helps I have seen no falling snow in scandinavia yet! Currently in Oslo. Off to Stockholm next. It was beautifully sunny today and it is now bitterly cold around -2c. A few old snow patches lying around though. Will be off into Swedish Lapland within the artic circle in a couple of days. -20 to -25c likely Tuesday and hopefully a good shot at seeing the northern lights as skies clear, hence the absolutely bone numbing temperatures!
  13. Our own marginal spell here in Gothenburg tomorrow. Low pressure tracking south around Copenhagen tonight and southern Sweden tomorrow sending some Ppn spiralling northwards and dragging colder air from the north around the low. Rain most likely near the coast but a chance of some sleepiness and snow for a time in the morning especially should the heavier Ppn arrive which looks likens close call. So even here we have marginality issues! The U.K. Is not alone. Lol.
  14. Hello from Gothenburg, Sweden! Good luck on your snow potential this week. Cold and rainy here currently. Promise of some snow for Oslo and Stockholm later this week where I head to. Then in Kiruna it should head down to -15 to -20c late this weekend when I arrive. Hopefully clear to see the northern lights by then.
  15. Yep very noticeable how the daylight is increasing in length fast now. pleasant in the sunshine today too. Seen loads of daffodils and snow drops on my travels so far today.
  16. Not great for warmth and sunshine it seems. Same as last few years. Any bets summer will go down the same route? Lol. looks like April may save the spring again a little. Predictable!
  17. Snow tomorrow morning? pfftt unlikely. Not impressed it looks like turning milder across Scandinavia for a time next week either as I go on holiday there. Hope it gets colder.
  18. Spot on. It's the novelties which make life interesting and good. If we had thundery showers etc every day we wouldn't get excited about it or really talk about it. The rarer forms of weather are what get us discussing here really. Even a a good few warm sunny days are a rarity ATM and will be discussed with open arms! Lol
  19. Not really going to get many or any evenings out enjoying beer with a way below average cet. Could barely do it last summer. Depressing stuff it was!
  20. Interesting event it sounds. Shows that for a proper snowfall in Cornwall you really do ideally need southerly tracking low pressure to bring in easterly winds and thus lower dewpoints (away from the moist warm atlantic). The chart above shows low heights around the poles/Greenland but a wedge of higher heights around Iceland, forcing low pressure south. Always a good thing that for snow for the southern half of the UK. Can imagine if that happened today, it being a little tricky around Bodmin! Also on the route out of Falmouth, the hills around Bissoe/Devoran, Carland Cross etc.
  21. Exceptionally mild day. Even had the Window open last night! Was fine in a t shirt today too!
  22. Sadly at our latitude in winter we are tropical really!! Ok may be a bit extreme but often on par with the Mediterranean except the far south/coasts which remain warmer.
  23. Yes a noticeable mild feel today. Actually felt a little bit of oomph in the sun today. The first for a while of course.
