Yeah scarfs and gloves back on for the next two days.

The only thing going bang here on July 4th will be the ex pat americans fireworks.
-
Very dry summer here so far and starting to become increasingly humid, next week after Monday looks very decent with a potential very warm period with lows stalling to our west pumping up humid air, properly cool and wet June's seem to be a thing of the past for the midlands.
-
Much improved day after yesterdays cloudfest, very sunny and feeling like your typical mid June Summers day.
-
Well it was one step forward yesterday in the models but the progress to a more interesting summer pattern seems to have stalled judging by tonight runs. But the signs of winds turning more westerly late next week are still there which would cut off the persistent cool flow.
Hey, westerly is a cool wind direction in the Summer, ECM 12Z in particular shows this end of next week.

Your'e not trying to deny we were in a tropical airmass this weekend are you?
No sunshine will limit 2M temps no matter the air source, check the high dewpoints and high humidity this weekend for the west midlands/south midlands.
-
Lets not forget we had a tropical airmass move over us from the SE on Friday and then linger over the midlands all weekend, some people are falsely blaming this on polar northerlies when thats not the case, its been humid no matter what the 2M temp says, we have been in >546 dam air all weekend.

Love how people use 1990 to 2007 as a measuring stick for our climate, one of if not the warmest UK 17 year period on record and only a tiny fraction of time in the earths lifespan, 30C+ is not common at all in the west midlands let alone northern england.

Subarctic via the Subtropics.

I was joking about the warm band of drizzly crud but guess what thats all i bloody got, terrible terrible day, can't wait for Autumn, had it with these thundery letdowns, summer is so boring with no storms.
-
Slate grey skies here for the past few hours, and a few spots of rain in the air right now. Currently 17.7°C
Bish
Sounds like absolute Pish Bish.

the storms will fizzle by the time they reach us in the early hours of Saturday for us in the nw , the most likely outcome , oh i cant wait for my cold band of drzzly crud with cold wind from the north
You're not missing anything Ian with this warm band of drizzly crud with a cooling breeze from the south.
-
expected sunny today, but slate grey skies all morning, now a west/east split developed, unsettled to my west/clear to the east
I did warn you a few days back, absolute joke of a heatwave with spots of rain, a poxy 18C here, wore a coat out and it didn't feel too bad.

Hiyer folks. After this weekends unsettled conditions for southern Britain, next week begins fine but high pressure retreats deep into the Atlantic by mid week allowing some fronts to move southeast across the nation along again with rather chilly winds and changeable weather . The 500mb charts does not seem to alter after this time frame for a fair time.
Not really changeable with HP so close, the fronts mid next week look more nuisance value to me and dying out by the time they reach the SE.

21C max in mid June in the SE is as run of the mill as 6C max in northern england in mid December.

GFS 12Z forecasting 10C for us on Sunday Joanna.
-
A shockingly good early summers day in nasty god awful hurricane force northwesterly rubbish.

-
GFS 12Z has a 1960's summer vibe about it, lots of northerly blocking and winds from a northerly quadrant.

Not looking forward to the cloudy damp easterlies from mid week, nice and sunny until then with the wind dropping, btw to people moaning about temps of 14C to 17C, what do you do in Winter, never go out.

why are people so hung up on temperatures?... they arent expected to be seriously below average, and theres far more to a pleasant summers day then mere temps alone.
temps are no indication of air quality or sun strength, both of which feature commonly in moans about summer (humidity - cant breathe, overcast/bright skies = poorer weather then clear blue even though overcast can be warmer).
Yeah air quality is good and sun strength high currently, beats stagnant polluted overcast muck anyday.

So we are back to cool oops very COOL NWesterly again.. well for the majority of the UK.. Seems we will not get rid of it this summer.. Apart from Thursday and Friday.. The rest of the time the temperature as been way down on where it should be..
How do you know, the summer is only 6 days long.
-
Much cooler fresher feeling by tomorrow though with the risk of some very chilly nights in rural areas of the midlands.
