  1. looking like a chilly but fresh second half of May

still, in the sun itll feel very pleasant, when theres no cloud the sky should be very blue (as opposed to milky) with good air quality. good for viewing noctilucent clouds?

Yes mushy it looks lovely and as you say the sun is very strong so will override any cool airmass, not sure where the cold and grey came from.

  2. Golden sunshine past few hours feeling lovely despite howling winds again.

As predicted charts are moving Azores high influence further away with each run for the weekend, now looks cold and grey for sure 11-13c!!

Looks showery next week and temps will respond in any sunny breaks, low teens is perfectly fine to most people.

  3. That had nothing to do with PM air - April was a very warm month relative to average. Please, think before you post.

Summer 2002 wasn't terrible either - but not great. August was warmer than average but July was a little cooler than average. June was around average.

Yeah but it was still mainly sub 546 dam HP cells and it was never that humid and dewpoints on the most part were low, we saw a high amount of ground frost at night, day length and sun strength made temps rise to above average values which is only 12C max, it was still colder than your coldest summer months.

March was very sunny and did have a higher occurrence of PM airmasses.

  4. The outlook is so incredibly dull its unreal. I hope a decent plume shows itself by the end of the month.

never mind Richard things are bound to improve, try and, do what Morecambe and Wise sang, 'Always look on the bright side...'

this seems at odds with your comments Richard

    from UK Met

East Scotland has had its sunniest April on record, beating 1942’s 200 hours of sunshine by 2 hours and it was the second sunniest for England East and NE with 212.4 – just behind 2011 with 216.9 5 hours.

Yeah John, its been an extremely sunny Spring , those "rubbish" PM airmasses not so rubbish afterall,.

  5. You off to your local swimming baths then :D that's the only way you'll be getting wet!!! next rain for the Midlands will be Thursday.

Where you get them forecasts from for your location i have no idea.

LOL, very amusing, Yeah Thursday looks like the only washout day this week.

  6. All models have now gone off the idea of any 'hot' spell next week, and we are left with average spring weather(GFS ECM)  nice days and chilly nights :)

Yes tuesdays southerly plume has been pushed way into europe, ECM 00Z has cyclonic Northwesterlies later in its run which i think will be correct, GFS 00Z seems most optimistic but other runs not so, chasing HP and warmth is a futile task.

  7. Very limited sunshine today and since 4 pm none at all, why oh why do people keep misleading people and saying SW'lys/Southerlies are sunny and as clear as PM northwesterlies, they seem to keep to this false way of thinking ignoring the facts.

  8. Hello welcome to the forum :)

We look forward to your future postings.

Regarding today SWly's are never good for Southeast!

Monday night into Tuesday morning appears to be quite interesting any corrections west as illustrated by BW charts and we might get a light display. :)

SW'ly's are never good for anyone actually outside the east/southeast, the heavy rain rain you mention most people in the south will sleep through, it arrives early hours tuesday.

  9. -1.1C here this morning, the coldest minimum in April since 2008. The previous latest spring air frost here was 26th April 1989, so its actually the latest since May 1979 (36 years!).

I find it hard to believe you haven't recorded an air frost in May unless you are high up which you must be, local river valleys around here get very cold in the Spring, air frosts in May are very common in river valleys in the midlands.
