  1. What I have noticed is that many of those that are terrified by climate change are the same people that did not trust the science with Covid......
  2. But government calls for immigration to fill jobs and there is talk of tax incentives to have children, all to power up economy and support aging population. Don't forget the houses needed. Unfortunately this is a positive feedback that will never end and the cycle needs to break.
  3. Memory is strange. Always went back to school and wondered why we were playing football and rugby as weather was better than when we tried to play cricket in the summer term. Felt like this happened every year and that was 40 years ago.
  4. Never turn my heating off. That's what a thermostat is for.
  5. I have had Covid since Saturday, nearly there now but as you say, the timing was awful!!
  6. In simple terms they are huge sources of atmospheric energy, their track can stir up and completely re set entrenched weather patterns.
  7. Climate shift in the form of "stuck" patterns, whatever its cause have a bigger effect on the ground than the overall warming. Probably caused by warming (not guaranteed) this is where impact is most felt.
  8. To be fair Nick, set-aside climate change. Charlwood and Heathrow would both have been cooler 100 years ago. Basic physics. They are not ideal temperature comparison sites. That is not denial but a look and variables around the results.
  9. Well last night was torture. Firstly I have the window open in January.....secondly in spite of other symptoms having retreated, Covid has made my throat feel as though I have swallowed bleach. So tossing and turning in the heat whilst in agony with my throat. Going to try again shortly.
  10. Looks like a heavy shower west of Birmingham even with the very dry hot air. Certainly unexpected. Hazy here too now
  11. I think humidity is key. I hate humidity but dry heat very bearable.
  12. Hehe, thanks, wife is so nurse practitioner and so in good hands, though she has it too! All good advice though and thanks.
  13. Covid actually helping, been shivering under duvet
  14. Finally got Covid. Terrible timing! Feel awful already. Not looking forward to this.
  15. I also think it is very much out there in the media. The problem is that the press cry wolf so often that people stop listening. In some ways it needs to happen. If the record dies not go it will stop even more taking note.
  16. In some ways it is just going to be a hot couple of days. Longevity of heat over a number of days is far worse and humidity also quite low. Those without health conditions will soon see it pass. For others though you are quite correct.
  17. A huge variable here may not be picked up by the output and that is the effect of the dry ground. Local factors will also have a huge bearing on whether a record is achieved. Always "easier" to backtrack from these extremes as it is when very cold temperatures are modelled- simply because there is only one way for variation to go when at the limit.
  18. Think our protesters should perhaps head over there. We aren't perfect but are streets ahead.
  19. Your probably correct. I am just struggling with what I wish for. I like thunderstorms but that storm may destroy someone's house or lighting may hit a kid. On your latter point. Our risk averse society should help. Son's sports day cancelled last week as it rained on the morning before it was due in the afternoon when the sun was out. They are trying again on Monday . Half expecting cancellation due to heat....
  20. And as a coldie my outlook is changing. I am really concerned currently and am not sure how I can chase severe cold again where people also die. In all honesty I can't be worried about the heat consequences and not those of cold.
  21. I don't lol. It's 7 days mid 30s to low 40s I'm concerned about. Not sure I want "better" Anyway, will be what it will be and I always say I like extremes
