Rita and philllipe..

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

from previous page, but shifted here: Interesting and thought provoking rixx. Not sure though Phillipe is a good few thousands of NM away. The high pressure is more likely to affect rita than Phillipe (who was btw, supposed to be entering OUR shores in a few days time...weird)!!

HURRICANE RITA DISCUSSION NUMBER 21

NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL

5 PM EDT THU SEP 22 2005

RITA IS GOING TROUGH THE WEAKENING PHASE OF AN EYEWALL REPLACEMENT

CYCLE AND DATA FROM THE NOAA RECONNAISSANCE PLANE INDICATE THAT

WINDS HAVE DECREASED TO 125 KNOTS...AND THIS MAY BE GENEROUS.

HOWEVER...THE MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE HAS REMAINED AROUND 913

MB...WHICH IS A VERY LOW PRESSURE TO HAVE ONLY 125 KNOTS. IN

ADDITION TO THE EYEWALL REPLACEMENT CYCLE...RITA IS CURRENTLY

MOVING OVER THE EDGE OF A COLD SST EDDY. THIS COULD HAVE ENHANCED

THE WEAKENING TODAY. THE HURRICANE IS FORECAST TO MOVE OVER ANOTHER

WARM EDDY DURING THE NEXT 12 TO 24 HOURS AND THERE IS SOME CHANCE

THAT RITA COULD REGAIN SOME INTENSITY. BECAUSE THE SHEAR IS

FORECAST TO INCREASE...THIS MAY COMPENSATE FOR THE STRENGTHENING

THAT MAY BE CAUSED BY THE EFFECTS OF THE HIGH HEAT CONTENT. THE

BEST OPTION AT THIS TIME IS TO KEEP RITA AS A 125 KT HURRICANE WITH

A SLIGHT WEAKENING BEFORE LANDFALL. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT RITA

IS EXPECTED TO MAKE LANDFALL AS A DANGEROUS HURRICANE OF AT LEAST A

CATEGORY THREE INTENSITY.

RITA IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST OR 300 DEGREES AT 8 KNOTS.

THE FORECAST TRACK HAS NOT CHANGED AND RITA IS EXPECTED TO BE

STEERED TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST AND NORTHWEST TOWARD THE

UPPER-TEXAS OR THE WESTERN LOUISIANA COASTS AS THE HIGH SHIFTS

EASTWARD. AFTER LANDFALL...STEERING CURRENTS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAKEN

AND THE CYCLONE COULD MEANDER FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS IN THE VICINITY

OF NORTHEASTERN TEXAS...PRODUCING HEAVY RAINS.

BASED ON THE FORECAST TRACK AND WIND RADII...THE TROPICAL STORM

WARNING HAS BEEN EXTENDED EASTWARD AND NORTHWARD ALONG THE

LOUISIANA COAST. ANY TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS IN THE NEW ORLEANS

AREA ARE EXPECTED TO BE CONFINED TO A FEW SQUALLS ASSOCIATED WITH

QUICKLY MOVING RAINBANDS.

This really is fascinating, have never seen a system like Rita being influenced by another system. Its not looking too special now for Louisiana, am glad we dont have to worry about weather like this (yet).

This is whats happening to me...

Spin a ball on a table top.

now wrap your arm over it, it will then spin into the arm and up...

Rita is doing this...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Like a pair of spiral galaxies caught within each others field of gravitation....... is that a normal part of the 'more active' Hurricane cycle????

Umm, if you look at the loop, http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT/watl-vis-loop.html

click to toggle off the first 3 frames, there is a line offshore from the Carolinas, down through to the Florida coast and the Bahamas, Phillipe is actually being dragged back by Rita via the feeder bands across Florida only a small part of high level cloud is spinning away from just offshore of the Florida coast.

Between the two systems it covers all of the Gulf, Carribean and a sizable part of the central Atlantic.

Interesting to note how much bigger in area Phillipe is at the moment too.

nah, don't get it ;) . a high pressure system is splitting them..

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

How about the high pressure system is joining them? often in the mechanical world the tether that joins moving parts has to be of 'specialist' materials to do the required job. What in the atmospheric world do the job best I wonder?....... ;)

Phillipe is big, sure, but very dis-organised and it's hard to establish where the centre is and the true direction of movement. These storms are just too far apart surely?

it's a slight input from Phillipe, but just enough for me to be concerned.

Saying that, Rita is OFF ON ONE as she's gone for another WNW jolt.

Rita is wobbling more than a Jordie female on a friday night.

Cool, GW. Understand that. Over such a vast scale is mindblowing. Not only will Rita go down in history regarding her presence, the fact the way she is being "worked along" is a new one!

Pressure now dropped to 910 mb, btw ;)

910 already? That's a bit quick! Maybe she's gonna bomb bigtime - just hope landfall is in that unpopulated area between Galveston and NO

Why is she weakening so rapidly? Winds this evening are already down to 145mph, that's a drop of 30mph in only 12 hours. I can see the entire storm dissipating before even reaching land.
