Yeah, I suppose it could be one of those prolific years when Systems keep ejecting from the Pacific, Certainly feels like a May set-up at present, I mean if its been 30c in Oklahoma this past week how hot will it be when we go. We reached 101f last year and that was NOT Nice, could not even get out of the car, thank god for Air Conditioning.

Next Week Forecast for Central/Southern Plains

Friday - Thunderstorms

Sat - Cloudy

Sun - Cloudy

Mon - Strong Thunderstorms

Tues - Scattered T-Storms

Wed - Strong Thunderstorms

Let me at em !!

Nick

3 tornadoes reported with this area of storms, Vance Air Force Base looks likely to be missed, radar still showing Hook as the storm crosses into Kansas now, heading between Medicine Lodge and Wichita.

Sometimes people have no choice I guess, particularly the poor :wallbash:

BTW, the 4-warn storm team showing live video footage from a helicopter of damage on the ground on the link below, just click on the link 'Live Video' and it shows footage eventually after a little chat from the presenters and the usual ad before hand:

Is it just me or did the colours on the radar just get brighter across the whole band on Nexrad?

Bit Suprised the SPC held back from issuing a MDT risk over OK today in light of the severe potential of storm initiation on the Western extent of the MCS over OK/KS, though maybe certain parameters that have been overlooked.

Sorry Did'nt see Pots, was watching the News coverage on K4 Oklahoma. Have you added that link as well.

Did you see the estimates for tomorrows rain, another 4 inches with a big severe potential as well.

 Think I have to agree with you there, sad about loss of life .. :)

Weather has to be treated with respect over here and taken seriously. Any loss of life is always sad, but people just have to be prepared.

As for the snow, this is a huge bonus for Wyoming. The high plains and parts of Wyoming and Montana are under severe drought conditions. Such a large snow pack is good news for drought-stricken areas.

SPC have issued a moderate risk for severe weather for today over C and SW Texas:

day1otlk_1200.gif

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1245 AM CDT FRI MAR 30 2007

VALID 301200Z - 311200Z

...THERE IS A MDT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS MUCH OF SWRN TX...

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS FROM SOUTH TX INTO THE MID MS

VALLEY...

...SYNOPSIS...

00Z MODEL GUIDANCE IS IN FAIRLY GOOD AGREEMENT WITH SHORTWAVE TROUGH

ROUNDING THE BASE OF THE SRN ROCKIES TROUGH THIS MORNING...THEN

EJECTING NEWD AS MID-HIGH LEVEL FLOW INCREASES ON DOWNSTREAM SIDE OF

ELONGATED UPPER LOW. THIS LOW LATITUDE FEATURE WILL CERTAINLY FOCUS

DEEP CONVERGENCE ALONG TIGHTENING BAROCLINIC ZONE FOR A SIGNIFICANT

EPISODE OF DEEP CONVECTION FROM SWRN TX...NEWD INTO KS/MO.

...TX/OK...

SELY FLOW IS DEEPENING ACROSS THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY INTO WEST TX

EARLY THIS MORNING IN RESPONSE TO SHORTWAVE TROUGH OVER SERN AZ.

LLJ SHOULD BECOME TIGHTLY FOCUSED ACROSS THE EDWARDS PLATEAU BY

MORNING ENHANCING LOW LEVEL WARM ADVECTION/ASCENT TO THE WEST OF

SHARPENING FRONTAL ZONE. IT APPEARS THUNDERSTORMS WILL EVOLVE EARLY

ACROSS THIS REGION FROM THE TRANS PECOS INTO THE TX SOUTH PLAINS.

RAPID EXPANSION WITH AN UPWARD EVOLUTION INTO A VERY LARGE MCS-TYPE

CONVECTIVE SYSTEM SHOULD THEN SPREAD DOWNSTREAM EVENTUALLY

DEVELOPING ACROSS MOST OF NORTH TX INTO OK. ALONG THE SRN FRINGES

OF THIS POTENTIALLY MASSIVE CONVECTIVE SYSTEM THERE WILL BE AN

OPPORTUNITY FOR A NARROW WEDGE OF STRONG BOUNDARY LAYER

HEATING...ROUGHLY ALONG AN AXIS FROM THE SRN TRANS PECOS...NEWD

TOWARD SJT. AS A RESULT...SFC-BASED INSTABILITY SHOULD INCREASE

MARKEDLY PRIOR TO THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT...APPROACHING 2000 J/KG.

FORECAST SOUNDINGS STRONGLY SUPPORT THE POTENTIAL FOR SUPERCELLS

WITH SFC DEW POINTS RISING THROUGH THE UPPER 60S AND STRONG DEEP

LAYER VERTICAL SHEAR. NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS WILL EVENTUALLY

OVERTURN THIS HIGHER ZONE OF INSTABILITY AS SFC BOUNDARY SHIFTS SEWD

ACROSS WCNTRL TX INTO THE HILL COUNTRY. VERY LARGE HAIL MAY

ACCOMPANY THESE SWRN TX STORMS WITH THE POSSIBILITY FOR TORNADOES

ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE EDWARDS PLATEAU.

NWD EXTENT OF SEVERE WILL BE HIGHLY CONDITIONAL DUE TO THE LIMITED

AMOUNT OF BOUNDARY LAYER HEATING/DESTABILIZATION PRIOR TO

THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. AS LLJ STRENGTHENS ACROSS NCNTRL TX INTO

CNTRL OK...WIDESPREAD DEEP CONVECTION WILL QUICKLY DESTROY AIRMASS

AND MAINTAIN WEAK LAPSE RATE ENVIRONMENT.

...ERN CNTRL PLAINS TO MID MS VALLEY...

A FEW STRONG THUNDERSTORMS MAY EVOLVE DURING THE DAY WHERE SFC

HEATING ENHANCES BUOYANCY...ESPECIALLY NEAR SE-NW ORIENTED WARM

FRONT. THIS ACTIVITY WILL THEN SPREAD NORTH INTO INCREASINGLY

HOSTILE AIRMASS WHERE UPDRAFTS SHOULD STRUGGLE TO GENERATE MORE THAN

MARGINAL SEVERE HAIL OR PERHAPS GUSTY WINDS.

A SECONDARY INCREASE IN DEEP CONVECTION WILL THEN SPREAD NEWD IN

RESPONSE TO SHORTWAVE EJECTING ACROSS THE SRN PLAINS. WEAK

INSTABILITY DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS WILL LIMIT SEVERE THREAT WITH

THIS RENEWED DEVELOPMENT.

Given the often very severe weather in the US it goes without saying that it has to be taken seriously, I think we are very fortunate not to have such dramatic

weather here.

Here we go again, some massive Hail cores just North of Senora (70dbz) and a MD Issued along with a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, only 630am over there and this band of Thunderstorms is expected to move Northwards over today as an Impulse moves North-Eastwards in the next few hours, so areas already on Flash Flood alert could be expecting another 100-150mm of Rainfall.

Has now been upgraded to a Tornado warning!!!

Statement as of 6:48 AM CDT on March 30, 2007

... A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 715 am CDT for north

central Schleicher and south central Tom Green counties...

At 647 am CDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to

indicate a tornado. This tornado was located near the intersection

of ranch Road 1828 and ranch Road 915... or about 10 miles north of

Eldorado... moving northeast at 35 mph.

The tornado will be near...

US-277 near the Schleicher-Tom Green County line by 700 am CDT...

In addition to the tornado... this storm is capable of producing baseball

size hail and destructive straight line winds.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a

workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is

available... seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an

interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to

cover your body and always stay away from windows.

If in Mobile homes or vehicles... evacuate them and get inside a

substantial shelter. If no shelter is available... lie flat in the

nearest ditch or other low spot and cover your head with your hands.

Now that is rarer than pulling hens teeth. Morning (Am) Tornadoes do not usually happen, of all the Storm Chase Logs I have read over the past 5 years I have only read 1 that had a Morning tornado and that was 1155am :unknw:

Also just found this from 28.03.07 - It takes a while to load and is 9 mins long but well worth it - Not advised on Dial Up
