Great footage there Paul.. Can't help but chuckle when the warning says" Exercise extreme caution, you are approaching a twisting storm!" as if you had'nt noticed!! :unknw:

Yes it makes me Laugh as well, the thing is rotating like a Merry go Round and the Barons is yelling out at you ;)

David Drummond is a very good Chaser though and his chase target that day was Plainview (Probably the best Chase Territory in the World) just flat brown fields with views about 50 miles, the main storm fired about 12 miles South East of Plainview (Chasers Jackpot)

That area does really well from Supercells, in fact the road to Amarillo from Plainview is Straight North.

Now that is rarer than pulling hens teeth. Morning (Am) Tornadoes do not usually happen, of all the Storm Chase Logs I have read over the past 5 years I have only read 1 that had a Morning tornado and that was 1155am :unknw:

Also just found this from 28.03.07 - It takes a while to load and is 9 mins long but well worth it - Not advised on Dial Up

Terribly sad slide show Paul.. What an absolute mess the place is. Its amazing that there was only the 1 fatality considering the lack of any warning

The video mentions 65 tornadoes yesterday..

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0377

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1125 AM CDT FRI MAR 30 2007

AREAS AFFECTED...OK

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 301625Z - 301730Z

BETTER SEVERE POTENTIAL MAY NOT DEVELOP UNTIL LATER THIS

AFTERNOON/EVENING...BUT TRENDS ARE BEING MONITORED FOR THE

POSSIBILITY OF A WW.

AS VIGOROUS SHORT WAVE TROUGH CONTINUES TO LIFT INTO/THROUGH THE

SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS...STRONGER MID/UPPER FORCING IS EXPECTED TO

RAPIDLY SPREAD OUT OF NORTHWEST TEXAS THROUGH MUCH OF CENTRAL

OKLAHOMA DURING THE 18-21Z TIME FRAME. THIS WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY

EXPANDING CLUSTER OR CLUSTERS OF CONVECTION. SEVERE THREAT IN THE

SHORT TERM ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ACTIVITY IS A BIT UNCERTAIN DUE...IN

PART...TO CONSIDERABLE CLOUD COVER EAST OF STALLING FRONTAL BOUNDARY

TO THE WEST OF THE INTERSTATE 35 CORRIDOR. LOW-LEVEL LAPSE RATES

PROBABLY WILL REMAIN WEAK...WITH LIMITED SURFACE HEATING.

AND...LOW-LEVEL WIND FIELDS/SHEAR ARE EXPECTED TO ONLY BEGIN TO

SLOWLY STRENGTH. LOCALLY EXCESSIVE RAINS MAY BE THE PRIMARY THREAT

IN THE SHORT TERM DUE TO SEVERAL HOUR PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN FALL.

PRIMARY SEVERE POTENTIAL ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTH CENTRAL INTO EASTERN

OKLAHOMA SEEMS LIKELY TO BEGIN TO DEVELOP IN THE WAKE OF INITIAL

NORTHWARD DEVELOPING CONVECTIVE CLUSTER... DURING THE 30/21Z-31/00Z

TIME FRAME...AS UPPER SYSTEM DRAWS CLOSER AND SURFACE WAVE

STRENGTHENS ALONG FRONTAL ZONE...ACCOMPANIED BY INCREASING VERTICAL

SHEAR.

Sadly that even with todays technology people fall victims to the awsome power of these storms..

If i lived out there i'd make it my business to follow the storms using the tools available even if i didnt have an

interest in weather!.. and when i thought its gettin a bit hairy i'd be straight down into my foxhole..

I was looking at the one a few counties W of Ft Worth aswell, a few tornadoes on the ground atm over N central and also W central Texas:

post-1052-1175275228_thumb.png

Risk of isolated strong tornadoes is increasing in this area according to SPC ;) , as the trough axis moves across the area, clearing skies to the SW will only aid to increase CAPE.

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1200 PM CDT FRI MAR 30 2007

AREAS AFFECTED...PARTS OF W CNTRL/NW...N CNTRL TX

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 92...

VALID 301700Z - 301900Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 92 AND NEWLY ISSUED

TORNADO WATCH 93 CONTINUES.

SURFACE WAVE DEVELOPMENT IS ALREADY UNDERWAY ALONG SURFACE FRONTAL

ZONE NEAR ABILENE TX. SIGNIFICANT PRESSURE FALLS ARE NOW CENTERED

NEAR ABILENE TX...IN THE VICINITY OF EXPANDING CONVECTIVE CLUSTER.

AND...MODELS INDICATE THAT THE SURFACE WAVE WILL CONTINUE TO AMPLIFY

WHILE MIGRATING NORTH NORTHEASTWARD TO THE WEST OF THE DALLAS/FORT

WORTH METROPLEX THIS AFTERNOON. RUC ANALYSIS INDICATES THAT THE

SOUTHERLY LOW-LEVEL JET IS ALREADY STRENGTHENING NEAR THE WAVE.

THIS IS CONTRIBUTING TO ENLARGING LOW-LEVEL HODOGRAPHS SUPPORTIVE OF

INCREASING TORNADIC POTENTIAL BENEATH 40-50 KT CYCLONIC MID-LEVEL

FLOW. INTO THE PEAK HEATING HOURS...RISK OF TORNADOES WILL

CONTINUE...PARTICULARLY NEAR DISCRETE CELLS FORMING IN

WARMING/DESTABILIZING BOUNDARY LAYER IN ADVANCE OF FRONTAL

CONVECTION. AND...THE THREAT OF ISOLATED STRONG/VIOLENT TORNADOES

WILL INCREASE THROUGH 21Z.

Tornado warnings have been dropped for the moment over TX, but still some severe t-storms knocking around with the potential at any time to drop a nado. My eye is drawn around San Angelo and further South near the I-10, some interesting echoes forming where there are clearer skies:

post-1052-1175283518_thumb.png

Max CAPE from insolation under clearing skies and high dew points and strong Storm Relative Helicity from the trough concide over this area of SW TX now according to models:

post-1052-1175283885_thumb.pngpost-1052-1175283810_thumb.png

Oklahoma also looking good for severe thunderstorms aswell looking at helicity forecasts, as low over TX moves NE'wards strong low-level shear and helicity increases across OK in next 3-4hrs so potentail for tornadoes looks to increase here aswell under any supercells/mesos.

Thanks for that Potty.

NOAA Weather radio on Page 12 of this thread and select either Houston or Dallas (Texas) should hear the warning come through loud and clear as that dangerous Supercell tracks towards the Dallas Area. Remember the last time a MD Was issued for 1 single Supercell we got an EF4 In Alabama. Interesting few hours ahead.

AREAS AFFECTED...MUCH OF CNTRL TX INTO SRN/ERN OK

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 92...93...94...

VALID 302031Z - 302200Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCHES 92...93...94...

CONTINUES...AND WILL INCREASE THROUGH EARLY EVENING.

SURFACE LOW NOW APPEARS TO BE FORMING TO THE WEST/NORTHWEST OF

STEPHENVILLE TX...WITH AREA OF RAPID PRESSURE FALLS EXTENDING

NORTHWARD AHEAD OF FRONTAL/PRE-FRONTAL SQUALL LINE INTO SOUTH

CENTRAL OKLAHOMA. RUC ANALYSIS INDICATES 30-40 KT LOW-LEVEL JET HAS

VEERED FROM SOUTHEASTERLY TO SOUTHERLY...STRENGTHENING LOW-LEVEL

HODOGRAPHS ABOVE GUSTING SOUTHEASTERLY PRE-FRONTAL BOUNDARY LAYER

FLOW. DUE TO CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF CONVECTION AND CLOUD

COVER...LOW-LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND MIXED LAYER CAPE ARE SOMEWHAT

WEAK. HOWEVER...MOIST LOW-LEVEL PROFILES...STRONG SHEAR...AND

LARGE-SCALE FORCING WILL LIKELY COMPENSATE... SUPPORTING ENHANCED

RISK FOR TORNADIC ACTIVITY IN PRE-FRONTAL SUPERCELLS. ISOLATED

STRONG TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE... AND DAMAGING WIND THREAT WILL

PROBABLY INCREASE WITH FRONTAL SQUALL LINE AS LOW-LEVEL JET

STRENGTHENS NORTHEASTWARD THROUGH NORTHEASTERN TEXAS/EASTERN

OKLAHOMA...AHEAD OF VIGOROUS SHORT WAVE TROUGH.

The line near San Angelo looks like setting up a Severe Squall with Bow Echoes, many Tornadoes form from these, but the Supercell on its own South of Fort Worth is the one to watch.

Hi Potty and Paul, Texas mesonet current data shows an area of possible convergence which i've drawn on where wind barbs are from NW with lower DPs (in green) to West of the line and wind barbs are backed to the SE with higher Dps to the East of the line, where the winds meet seems to be creating the squall line and bow echoes from San Angelo NE'wards to just E of Abilene and on towards Wichita Falls, with help of strong wind shear, CAPE levels must be high now with max insolation now in the clearer skies over SW TX:

post-1052-1175287919_thumb.png

Be nice to be placed about 40 mi east of San Angelo, perhaps moving NE along the squall line if need be.
