Well, just walked up the hill to see what the rest of the village was like, and what a snow shower... with accompanying thunder, its been snowing pretty much all morning, albeit lightly, but this was something else, visibility dropped to nothing. Winds veering from NE to SW but still icy cold out. Currently brighter.

oo and I see we have a moderate risk of a severe event on Thursday....

What an exciting morning here west of Swansea. Snowed for hours last night, and started again at 8am this morning. By 9am, every road both major and minor impassable. Road was blocked for hours at fforestfach roundabout and for a time at fforestfach cross by lorries unable to move. Road blocked again at Penllegaer and motorway junction was closed. Several accidents on Pentregethin Road.

Ended up in Gorseinon, and was unable to return home. No gritters or ploughs to be seen, many many cars abandoned on the slightest of hills. Eventually managed to get home via waunarlwydd after many attempts of getting up a very small hill.

Snow stopped about 10:30, yet major roads are still covered in snow and minor roads impassable at 1:30. Just saw one plough with a police land rover escort going the wrong way down the dual carriageway. All schools closed in the area.

The local villages of Felindre and Garnswllt are completely cut off, even most 4x4 vehicles are unable to reach here.

What a forecast for Thursday... News24 seemed to think that it would cover pretty much all of southern britain.

Whilst I love snow, I have this strange feeling that if this 'exceptionally severe' event would come about, we might not cope. It was bad enough london closing at only 9.30pm, and most of Wales is shut down today. Hmmm. I'm sorry I'll stop being a spoilsport now.

Haha... maybe it'll teach us some lessons... altho to be fair, each year we usually get some snow that grinds the country (especially us southerners) to a halt and we don't learn. If we used chemicals to 'de-ice' the road rather than salt as in Europe it would be a start, and its all very well clearning the main roads, but if you don't clear the side roads whats the point? - rant over, just want to get off the Moor but the car is well and trully stuck! hehe

Heavy rain in Wareham for 20 minutes just wiped away all trace of snow then followed up by a monster hail squall which has turned everything white again! Biggest one I have ever seen.

By the looks of the radar, this could be an interesting afternoon.

Cracking morning here in Maesteg.

Snowed most of the night and then chucked it down heavier from 8am til around 11ish - major roads were barely passable, but side roads were treacherous.

Partly cloudly with sunshine now. Still a good 5 or 6 inches on the ground and it looks marvellous.

Pic taken 10am just outside town centre.

What a flash and a bang, you beat me to it Chrissy! I was outside clearing some ice off of the swimming pool, nearly damn well fell in.

What a mix we are having today, the snow, then the rain which started melting it, then sleet, then hail and now a huge flash of lightning and a very loud crack of thunder. Yehhhheeeee. Our kind of weather.

Stopped for the moment, it's cloudy in the west so maybe the chance of a few more showers?

Also it says in your sig the best snowfall since 26th Feb '04, was there a lot of snow then? I'm pretty sure 8th Feb 07 had more snow here than today, but back then it had all melted by 3PM

Will PM you.

Have you had more showers recently?

A few flurries of snow/hail/sleet, heaviest have been to the SE of you see the radar.

Right now there's a sleety / graupelly flurry with sun shining.

there's a big chance now that I'll only have two days pay this week.

Looking at the charts if they stay the same would mean lots of snow for many parts particularly Devon and Somerset and maybe Dorset could be interesting, however we all know how quickly this can change so an open mind is required!!As i see it there could be fronts near to our region for 24 hours or more midnight Weds to sometime early Fri and we would be on the correct side of these fronts ATM
